I have four children. They are four, six, seven, and fifteen. I have no clue what to do anymore. I have a job making fourteen dollars an hour and work a lot of over time. Since I got my raise I no longer qualify for Medicad or food stamps. My kids NEED insurance. I don’t know what to do anymore. Before I was able to get help but now it seems the more money I make the harder it gets. I need help getting on my feet but it seems like there is no help out there. Anyone with advice of where to go for help or with experience please answer. I really appreciate all the help. Thank You!

I am very active in church but there's only so much you can ask for you know? I go to church more for spiritual guidance then handouts. Thanks for the advice though!

For your kids insurance I recommend looking into your states CHIP program.

I understand what you are dealing with. I am in the same situation but I only have two kids. I do not recieve child support, but not that I have not done everything in my power leaglly to get it. I am curious does your employer offer medical? If they do not usually medicade will cover you and the kids and as your income goes up they assign a co-pay. I would call your worker and see. The father is also responsible to provide coverage for the children under most divorce and child support laws, so I would check into that as well. I know how you feel, Iam there with you, there are many of us out here that are in the same shoes. So dont let it get you down. Just keep trying.

This has got to be your choice, but with this great job, then maybe you won't even need the degree in baking? Maybe you can do it all, get married in 2010, take this job, and then go back to school part time and get your baking degree. Besides, working at a cake shop, I bet you could get free cakes and other goodies for your wedding. You could even have a dessert only wedding, which would be awesome since you are going to be a baker. With the way the ecnomy is, I think you should take the for sure thing job. It sounds like this is what you want to do, anyway, right? But its gotta be your choice. You can always go back to school part time. I'm 24 years old and you wouldn't know it by my poor spelling, but I'm a graduate student, a full time teacher and planning a wedding. So, you can have it all!

I am sorry I can be of no help. The government insists on putting such ridiculous limits on the assistance. If you did not try at all, you would be eligible for all sorts of things. It is a shame, you could sit on your butt all day, work no OT and be living just as good as you are now. I hate it that you are penalized for being a good employee. You got a raise, so now the government is going to knock you back.
I sympathize with you. What state are you in? In Alaska (where I am) you would still be eligible for Medicaid for the kids and for food stamps too.

You are right The GOV does not help people up but forces them to stay down. They set it up so when you do work and get on your feet you are worse than when you worked less and made less. Can you stop so much over time and get stamps by working less? This may be a way for you to see more of your kids.check w/ your work do they offer insurance? certain states offer insurance for kids outside of the regular system (like Florida) Good luck

You said they don't qualify for medicaid but what about CHIPS? Usually kids aren't taken from medicaid to nothing they go to CHIPS first which is a program where dr visits and medicines are priced based on income - my sis in law pays $15 dr visits and $5 prescriptions. You would file for it at the DHS. If you could be more specific on the state you are in perhaps someone could provide you with a bit more specific information on assistance - every state is different.

Not sure if your church is a participant in this program. There is no qualifying. the website is www.angelfoodministries.com
One unit of food is suggested to feed a family of 4 for a week. And a unit is $25.00. Go to the website and find a host site in your area.

14.00 an hour isn't anything to raise 4 children. OMG! I really have compassion for you mother to mother. Do you have family that can help? How can you not get food stamps? Something isn't right. I mean how do pay rent on that? Where do you live and what are you in need of? Please reach out to your church, community, and your family

Is there any possibility, of considering a room or part of your home, that can be converted to a rental space, for room and board to students and or a mature adult, who has been carefully screened by you. You could also make the space closed off to one part of your home, to keep it completely private, which you could consider asking more, for that convenience. That's all I can think of right now, good luck!
