Her metabolism will stop working properly. Her body will go into starvation mode and will not digest as effectively. Once she stops and begins to eat normally again, she will gain the weight back, and then some, as her metabolism will still not be back to normal.
Another immediate concern is that if you are restricting (skipping meals, cutting out calories), you are setting yourself up to eventually binge. This will cause weight GAIN. The best way to lose weight is to eat sensibly, and exercize. Don't try to lose or gain weight too quickly, as it's not healthy.
Below is a link to find a nutritionist. He or she can help you establish a meal plan that's right for you.
Best of luck to you. :)

If all your nutritional needs are being met and you need to lose weight then a diet of 900 calories should typically be OK. However, there are other factors that can affect weight loss such as thyroid conditions.
Determining the appropriate amount of calories to consume and still lose weight also takes into account the individuals age, gender and any health conditions. Before starting any diet, especially one with a low calorie requirement, the individual's physician should be consulted.
Also keep in mind that success will be affected by the individual's ability to maintain that type of diet/lifestyle. There has to be some wiggle room now and then - especially since the holidays are coming up in a couple of months. Approaching the weight loss as part of a complete and healthy lifestyle, rather than just counting calories (albeit with some exercise), will provide much better long term results.

If she sticks to exercising an hour a day she should lose a lot of weight. 900 calories isn't that hard to do but you MUST make sure it is healthy food though (enough protein, fiber, whole grain, etc) and pace it out to 4 - 5 meals a day so she gets enough energy throughout the day. Multivitamin is good. If she's only slightly overweight, 4 months maybe too long to do this.

Depends... if she's pregnant, I wouldn't suggest it. If she's not, she can probably get a lot of nutrients from lowfat meats such as white chicken, white tuna/albacore, etc., and unprocessed fresh veggies. Avoid carbs/sweets and 900 cals can be a lot of food.
I weight about 95 lbs and that would be just enough to sustain my weight.
If she works out, she'll probably lose a little bit too.
