I guess because they are such sensual/solitary animals. They love their own company so a damn good licking really does it for them. Moggie ecstasy! I mean - what does it take to close your own eyes and purr? (No innuendo intended!)

I think they just enjoy themselves. They also close their eyes when they really enjoy petting, etc.
