1. No.

2. Kid, 1337 has been around for a long, long time. (Since computers first became avaliable, really.) It's not like what the stupid little boys and girls running around do with misspelling everyday words (it's "disaster", by the way), and nowadays it's only used by three people: cynics being sarcastic, idiots who think they're "cool", and someone insulting another by calling them a "n00b" (which is hardly 1337 talk, in my opinion, and is just basic gaming/Internet protocol).

3. I've already described who actually uses it and, yes, they use symbols to work as letters. Haven't you ever spelled out a dirty message on a calculator to your friends? It's the same exact thing.

Hi, I'd like to clarify some facts about 1337 language, since I am a user myself.

We do not use it to communicate. It is a language used to mock people. Mainly, I speak it during the time which I play games. If I win against someone, I usually type ''oWn4d'' which translates to ''owned'', meaning ''you were humiliated''.

Sometimes, as a sarcastic joke, I would type something like ''1 4r3 t3H 1337 h4x0r!!!!1111ONEONEoneoneOENelevenONE''

Usually, by this, I'd be impersonating someone who actually took the language seriously, and mocking them.

It's just a joke.. But to those who do take it seriously.. It is a social disaster.. They're ''n00bs''

Final response, the character replacement is used by gamers because it represents a CIPHER, used for hacking. It makes them feel a little powerful I guess.

Hope this helped!
