There are about 10 different anti-depressants on the market right now so it depends on the drug. Each is different and has a different strength.
Find a good doctor and try one, if you need it. If the first does not work, then keep trying until you find one that fits you. Remember that you will not see much of an effect for a couple weeks so be patient.
Good luck

I dont think that there is an average dose as each person is different in their needs, basically the meds would be prescribed at a fairly low dose and increased over time if they dont work on the initial dosage. I have been on lots of different meds, started off low and increased.... I am on new meds now (mirtazapine) which has caused some awful fluid retention......grrrrr

It relies upon on the medicine getting used, and the guy. some drugs (inclusive of Lexapro) are extra centred, and use decrease doses (i'm on 10 mg). diverse human beings have diverse sensitivities to the medicine, and one guy or woman might want a decrease dose, yet yet another a some distance better dose. It in simple terms relies upon on how their structures technique the medicine. And, reckoning on the seriousness of the melancholy it would desire to take a extraordinarily good (or weaker) dose to boot. You mentioned you stopped taking the Zoloft through area consequences, are you taking some thing diverse precise now? terrific of wonderful fortune to you :-)

Depends on the medication, the reason prescribed and the individual. The best dose is one that you and your health care provider have mutually determined are good. There is way to much variation in the compostion and action of these medications to be able to determine an "average dose."
