Nope Salt in differing quantities an cause you to retain or release fluids. Bars keep salty foods at hand so that you will drink more alcohol.
Consuming salt when you drink may actually cause a worse hangover. Consuming plenty of water or even electrolyte replacement like gatoraid may be better to help with the Hangover you feel the next day.

OK, hangovers, im the master, lol. First off, salt dehydrates. Less salt during your hangover the better. Now in fixing the hangover: Pickles, olives in the jar, both work great. The key is the vinegar thyre preserved in will help to run the liquor out of the body. I keep a jar. grab them first thing. Works wonders. 2nd, when u finally feel up to eating a meal, eat high carb food, pasta, breads, so forth, theyre filling and absorbant. Youll just have to trust me on this one

Hydrate in the latin essentially means to add water to.
Salt in any form does not add water to your body. Salt dehydrates. Alcohol dehydrates. Hangovers are a result of extreme dehydration... so live it up.
Your friend is an idiot.

This myth was debunked on the TV program DR. KNOW. Salty foods will bind to the water in your system and make you dehydrated long before you sober up. The best thing to do is drink less (one 12 oz beer, one glass of wine or one shot of hard liquor an hour is more than the body can metabolize) and drink lots of water while imbibing
