I think that's a really sweet idea...my parents and sister got me a congrats gift and it just makes you feel special. I think the congrats gift should be focused more on your sister then the baby because for the rest of her life...the baby WILL be in the spotlight. Maybe get her some nice lotions from bath and body works. Coco butter cream will help her with stretch marks. Keep it simple, sweet and all about her. Maybe take her out to lunch.

Send a card or just a little something if your an excited aunt/uncle. There's no etiquette rule or anything, but I know I was really excited with all my nephews and bought little onesies that said something about having the coolest aunt ever, etc. There's all kinds of baby showers and the birth where you will want to buy stuff for too.

a album would be a nice gift right now to get her! This way she can keep all her ultrasounds in. THEN when she has her baby shower then you can always get her a different and better gift! Small one first! CONGRATS!

When I found out my sis was pregnant I got her a small gift. With her first child I gave her a small baby photo album to keep her ultrasound pics in and with the second I gave her a blanket and stuffed animal.

Thats a really sweet idea. Get her a card and maybe something small. Dont get her anything scented because morning sickness should be rolling in anytime soon if she gets it. I bought my sister a card and a soft stuffed beanie baby duck for the baby.

When it is a close friend of mine or relative I always buy a card congratulating them on their pregnancy, the "What to Expect When you are Expecting" book ($12.00) and a cocoa butter stick ($12.00) from "The Body Shop".

Most people wait for the shower, but I always feel that if I love them they deserve something extra.

Then get ready to help plan the shower!

I wouldn't be so worried about what is proper or not if it were my sister. Do what feels right to you! Your sisters having a baby!!! Go all out if thats how excited you are for her.

A card is good enough for now, and maybe a baby book like "what to expect while you are expecting". All other stuff you can wait for the baby shower.
