Basically, the children of Israel lost their focus on what the Messiah was or should be. Your resondents are correct in saying that the Jewish nation in the time of Christ were looking for a temporal savior instead of a spiritual savior. The ancient prophets tried to point the way that God's Kingdom is not a worldly kingdom and His Son would not be a worldly king. The Messiah would lead God's children back to God's Kingdom, not to worldly glory. Even King David himself was a type and shadow or a symbol of what was to come. As David united all of Israel in a temporal kingdom, so his descendant, Jesus Christ, would lead Israel into a spiritual kingdom. By teaching the principles of Heaven to God's earthly children, they were supposed to elevate their behavior to a heavenly level and thus be ready to return to God's Kingdom after mortality. Also, by living those same teachings, they would create a near heavenly abode while in mortality. The oppressed Jewish nation lost sight of those symbols and were looking for deliverance from Rome which was not Christ's goal.
As for the ancient prophecies, an examination of the life of Jesus reveals concurrence in all respects. He was born in Bethlehem and brought out of Egypt and raised in Nazareth. He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out evil and controlled the elements. He was tried and slain and laid in a tomb and raised again according to the prophecies. There were enlightened people that did recognize Him as the promised Messiah but they did not stop the naysayers from carrying out their diabolical opposition. One day, all will recognize Him and acknowledge Him as the Savior and Ruler of His Father's Kingdom.

Because Jesus (nor anyone else yet through history) did not fulfill the "job requirements" of the Messiah, such as brining world peace, gathering Israel, etc.

Christians also realize that Jesus failed in these major tasks of the Messiah. That's why there is the "second coming" in Christianity. Christians believe Jesus will do these things when he "comes back".

We don't give credit to someone for accomplishments before they actually accomplish them.

The world will know for sure who the Messiah is when the job of the Messiah is DONE. And only then.

I'm afraid you can't say that all Jews don't believe. I know many Jews that believe He was the Messiah.
I think alot of Jews just call themselves Jewish by tradition, not because they "practice" it. They don't follow any rules, etc and basically believe what the mainstream tells them what they should believe. It's not uncommon. Personally, I don't know how any Jew can read the book of Isaiah and NOT believe that Jesus is the Messiah. I have a friend that graduated from a Catholic High School and later in life converted to Judaism for a boyfriend. UmmmI can't fathom that.

Because Jesus does not fit the descriptions of the Messiah.
Many people rose and claimed to be the Messiah (and some of them had their followers, like Jesus) but no one yet was found to be the real Messiah, as far as the Jews are concerned.

This question has been asked here several times. Pretty much the Jewish idea of the Messiah is a return of King David. Not necessarily David himself but a Davidian figure who would bring peace to the Jewish nation and lead them to glory. Jesus did not fulfill this requirement so he is viewed merely as a prophet.

The Jewish Messiah had very specific qualities that Jesus did not fulfill. It was Christians writing after Jesus died who tried to fit him into the mold ofg the Messiah, but he failed to qualify because he did not accomplish what the Judaic Messiah should have.

There are many reasons....however, the Jewish Messiah must meet all the criteria and fulfill all the prophecies of the Messiah from the Hebrew Scriptures (what you would call the Old Testament). Jesus fails in every respect, therefore he simply cannot be the messiah.

There are two sets of prophesies concerning the messiah. One set as the reigning ruler of Israel and one as the suffering servant. The first time Jesus came, the Jews expected the reigning ruler like King David to free them from the oppression of Rome, but he came as the suffering servant and they did not recognize him. But when he comes back again he will be the reigning ruler of Isreal. And Israel will be his bride, the bride that he has always spoken of in the Old Testament. They will accept him. The root and offspring of David, the Rose of Sharon, the Great IAM, the everlasting One. God. Yeshua. God is salvation.

The word "messiah" in Jesus's time meant "he who will lead Israel out of occupation by Rome". Did Jesus do that? No. I suggest you read some more biblical history outside of a religious perspective. It might surprise you.
