Often, "refurbs" are just returned merchandise that can't be sold as new. These cameras are fine and never had anything wrong with them. I've bought a couple without problems. Some refurbs are cameras that actually needed a repair, but they are repaired and certified by the factory to be as good as new and they should come with a warranty. Do not buy a refurb if it is not a "factory refurb" item. Although a refurb should come with a 90-day or 1 year manufacturer's warranty, you can buy third party warranty for 5 years for about $40-50. (You can do this for new equipment, also.) This may not be a bad idea if you are buying an "upscale" refurb. It would still cost a lot less than a new item in most cases. If you are buying a refurb for $100 or so, don't bother with the extended warranty.

Assumption: Refurbished = Factory Refurbished

Yes, factory refurbished cameras are as good as new ones. In fact they might be netter than new ones because they will most likely have the latest software and exterior accessory features. Existing "new" cameras may have departed from the factory as much as a year ago, and nobody is interested in updating them.

NO!!!!

Every refurbished thing I have ever bought has broken just after the warranty ran out.

Stay away from refurbished.

I think the definition of refurbished is : a word used to part a fool from his money by offering a deal that is too good to be true.

Find out what needed to be refurbished on it

it depends. refurbished means one of two things.
1. it was sold and customer return it nothing wrong and they repackage it to be resold. (this is the best if you get it.)
2. it had problems and was send back to be repaired and then repackage to be sold. this is the worst since anything that's been repair could break again and no repair is perfect.

so in case of refurbished its all your chance of luck. somethings they don't repair somethings they do not so if you buy it your rolling the dice.

It could be just as good as new. If the warranty is the same as new, then buy it with confidence.
