Its one of the greatest account ever written on this topic, do read it. Its not a biased account for a specific religion, its a comparative essay about the concept of God in major religions of the world including Christianity, Islam, Budhism etc

Are there dozens claiming to be THE Almighty? I thought there was just one, the one true God who is worshipped by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike, the God of Abraham.

It's exactly like gambling. In fact, it's very much like playing the lottery.
The only difference is that you can actually win the lottery; you can't actually choose the correct religion.
I think a better question is: "Why do I have to choose a god at all? What reason do i have to think that one even exists?"

Dozens? More like 30,000 Christian sects alone. That's one of the reasons why Pascal's Wager fails. Not only do you have to believe in God to get into heaven, you have to choose the right version of God too or else you're hosed anyway.

Yes, It is a gambling if you choose a God without conferming or reading about its sources. There are billiosn of people in the World who are following the Religion of the their fathers and fore fathers - for them the legitimacy of the Religion is that he is born in that religion - however that is not.
I know thousands and thousands of people who have verfied the truths about different religions and finally choosen Islam which they have felt has testable evidence. Islam has all the answers for the mankind and furhtermore it does not confuse the man. It is a natural religion for Humans.
If you are still unsure, give it a try or try to verify about its truths. If you need any help, do not hesitate to contact me....

He is the same God in all the major religions that I have looked into. The only difference's that I see is the name for God, obviously, and the prophet introducing the religion.

i see it this way....there is only one God, and if there where many, they all belong to the same family.
Why so?
Well u see , we think that ( theres no other way of explaining it), that God created this Universe and we have this one Earth and the clashes in the name of Gods.
I see it thhis way, if there were many Gods, and as we assume all are Good, they wouldnt be needing this one earth to promote them selves ( I dont think they are into those politics)...they could have many Earths and All these Gods could choose, one for each and say..ok now my people would be here and you can have your people in a different planet.
Now do you think that would happen, No...reason...that would make our Gods less than us ....so the conclusion...there is only one God and if there are more...they all are of the same family :)
its as simple as that.
Why clash in the name of God, eh?

easy peasy. do not choose any of the "dozens"...
don't you see? the fact that there is so many being claimed to be God, shows that there must be a flaw in the system somewhere.

Whatever is most important to you is your god. For some it's money, cars, sex, just name it. So there are many false gods, not just a dozen.
None of those things will save your soul in the hereafter. Only Jesus Christ can do that through the power of His blood.

I agree, that is why I'm agnostic. I'm acknowledging that ANY religion out there could be the right one. However, they could all be wrong. How am I supposed to know? I just treat others as I wish to be treated, and hope for the best.
