Go to your family doctor and you will be referred to a psychiatrist.

Family doctors can prescribe these...and are usually the fastest to get into. But if they believe you will be on them long term, they will prob send you to a psychiatrist. Usually wait times are a few months for a new patient appointment with them though, and some insurance requires a referral.

A psychologist can not prescribe meds, but is great for talk therapy and finding the true cause of your symptoms.

Go to your primary doctor and let him know all your problems and concerns. There are many people out there that do need help and are either afraid or ashamed to go. Your doctor keeps your file confidential, so no worries there. The first step is admitting to it and seeking the help.

I had to go to my doctor, told him all I did was cry and just wasn't happy, regardless of the fact that I have a great husband and two beautiful girls, I couldn't understand it. He said that it happens to more people than you imagine. He put me on some meds that I took for about 2 weeks and they worked great. I sometimes still get those days every so often, but I seemed to have gotten out of my slump.

Good luck and go see your family doctor!

Poor thing, it's great that you are seeking help. You see a psychologist for talk therapy but they can't prescribe medicine, and you see a psychiatrist for medication. With most people's health insurance you have to go to your regular doctor, tell them about the problems briefly and they give you a referral to either a psychologist or psychiatrist or both. These are problems you can address with their help, good luck.

Go to your regular family doctor first. He/she may be able to help you. Also, ask for a referral to a Psychologist. He/she (the Psychologist) cannot prescribe drugs, but can help you with your anxieties.

Call today. Make the appointment. Once you get on the medicine (if the dr prescribes), you will feel better.

I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

Psychologists can't prescribe medication. If it is just depression, your general practitioner can prescribe something, but if you want to talk to someone or think it is something more elaborate (ie. mental health disorder) go to a psychiatrist. They can help you with your problems and prescribe the right medicine. They have both a degree in medicine and psychology.

I had Psychology this morning and we talked about this very thing! : )

a psychiatrist has the athourity to prescribe pills. You can also go to a regular psychologist and they can refer you to one. btw, use pills as a last resort, they don't solve your problems, they just shove the dirt under the rug. Try a behavior therapist...
