What makes cheese curds squeak beneath your teeth when you eat them?

Cheese curds are actually a living colony of single-celled, amoeba type organisms and NOT a dairy product at all, as you may have been led to believe.

Hence, the "squeak" you hear as you bite down is actually thousands of tiny voices yelling, "Oh shiiiiiiiiiii...."*

* (Think the cliff scene in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.")

ewww.. you must have some shiny clean teeth to have them squeak I've never had that problem. Are you talking cottage cheese, it's the only cheese curds I can think of.

I think it may have to do with freshness but they generally squeak more when the temperature of them warms. I haven't had any for a long time. Last time I had some was when I went to Swiss Village in Nampa, Idaho.

Umm... you may not want to eat those. They don't squeak when I eat them. There may be something wrong with yours.
