My husband really wants to get a gun and a liscence to carry it. I am really against this because I know how my husband might act. He is the type who would try to use it when he gets angry, and only sees it as a sign of power or being superior to someone else because he has a weapon. He grew up in the streets and that is where most of this comes from for him. If that is the same for you then it may not be a good idea. I suppose the upside is personal safety within your own home, you know if there is a burglar or something like that. I think that a downside is that in the heat of the moment, your judgment isn't always the best. You might do something out of anger that you may regret and that is something that you can't take back. There are no mistakes when owning a gun. Now if you're only using it for recreation, like at a gun range, then there may be nothing wrong with that! I suppose you have to have a clear and consice reason for owning a gun, and know every safety perameter that you can take to ensure that no accident will happen!

A gun is not dangerous - only the person using it is dangerous. Do not buy one unless you have a very good reason why you should have one. If you purchase one - keep the gun locked up and the amunition separate. Be fully trained on how to use a gun and have it registered (I do believe this is a must).
The safe side .................... protection, I guess but this still will not keep the wierdos away.

The dangerous side to owning a gun is that children can see it as a toy if not properly out up and self inflicted wounds (accidental). The good side is protection for you and your family. I live in SC and here if someone steps into the threshold of your hom euninvited or with malicious intentions you can shoot them DEAD!!
PS - you can buy gun locks or lock the gun in a case if you have kids

The dangerous aspects of using a gun include using it before you are completely trained in how to do so, its availability to others (such as children, burglars, family members) who either don't know how to use it properly or who use it against you or others, and the possibility that a gun, like every other product, can malfunction and create severe damage. The safe side? The fact is that guns are intended to be dangerous, so there really isn't one. Even self-protection is not safe for the other person or creature against whom you are protecting yourself. Weapons make safety a zero-sum game. If I win, it is because you lost.

It's tempting when someone makes you mad to use the gun or maybe a kid getting the gun and getting hurt...safe side would be to protect yourself if someone tries to break in your house.

Dangerous side - it can be found by a child and fatally discharged; or a thief could find it and use it against you; or it could be taken from you as you stand quivering before an intruder.
Safe side - might discourage someone from invading your home if they see that you have one in your hand.
