Someone told me it meant they were deaf in one ear.

It can be a sign of a congenital defect or simple genetics. Cats with eyes like that are uncommon. So in fact you cat could be deaf. Try jingling keys behind his head and see if he hears it. If he does he is fine.

There is also a breed of temple cats that are natually born that way.

A note as well if you have not gotten the kitten fixed yet. Have the vet check his heart first. I had a white himalayan with the blue and green eye. He ended up having a heart defect and passed away when they put him under anastesia.

Not that I can spell.
Good luck

Sometimes the color of a cat's eyes signal genetic problems. For instance, most all white cats with blue eyes are deaf. But your cat having one blue and one green is not a solid indicator that it is deaf in one ear.

Has it been to the vet yet? If so, he would've told you if he thought the cat was deaf in one ear. If not, you can ask when you DO take the cat to the vet.

In some breeds it could be a sign of a genetic defect. An example being a Dal with 1 brown eye and 1 blue - a sign of the deafness trait being passed on. If the cat seems fine, there is no problem.

I have two all white cats, one long haired and one short haired, that have one blue and one green eye each. One is male and one is female. Our vet said that white male cats with different colored eyes were more likely to be deaf, but both my babies hear just fine!

No, odd colored eyes are normal. I think it's all-white cats with two blue eyes that have a greater chance of deafness.

Some people have this. Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane in the new Superman movie) has one brown eye and one blue eye, (there's aname for it but I can't think of it off the top of my head) But It's perfectly normal and your cat should be able to hear just fine reguardless.

Take care.

No its not bad. It just means that your cat has two dominant genes for eye color, so one blue one green. It can happen in people also.

The colour of a cats eye does not indicate any hearing problems. Cats with 2 different colours of eyes are called 'odd-eyed' and its not common, but it doesnt do your cat any harm at all.

Nope not bad at all, but unique. I recently picked up my new kitten from a cattery and saw a baby there that had two different color eyes and she said it's because the father had one color and the mother had another and when they created the kitten it just got one of each. It's not bad sweetie.... it's cool. You have a special and rare pet!
