Last Christmas my hubby got me a really nice digital camera that I had been wanting. I take pictures throughout family functions, as do most of the other family members. My SIL (sister-in-law) is constantly trying to take my camera and run off with it to take her own choice of pictures(she's 27 yrs old).I can be mid-shot and she'll say "let me see your camera" or "here, let me take pics". This gets EXTREMELY annyoing and I find it very rude. My husband and I often discuss what kind of photos we'd like to get and I strive to get those, get others, and enjoy the family. Her household income is more than quadruple that of ours and she could easily afford to get herself an equal or greater quality camera, but does not. I have several times offered to help her pick out one to suit her needs. She has her own camera right now, and never uses it claming the "memory is full"( it doesn't take as good pictures) And she NEVER does this when hubby is by my side. I don't want to be rude.

But how can I end this annoyance without a problem being created? I'm to the point where I have to avoid her at family functions unless hubby is by my side. Please help me.

Oh, she doesn't do this to any other family members, just me......and most of their cameras are better than mine.

Look her dead in the eye and say "NO." She is a spoiled brat and just wants to get her way. It doesn't matter that she is 27 years old. I would also add, "Buy your own, or I'll print you of a copy of what I have, but keep your grubby hands off my camera."

With a stern voice, she'll get the "picture". You may get an attitude from her for a while, she'll get over it. (eventually)

Sounds to me like shes going out of her way to be rude to you when your hubbys not there If I were you the next time she tried to run off with the camera I'd just as polite as I could say no and if she gets mad which she probably will tell her you'd like to talk to her for a second and tell her everything you stated in this question tell her you think shes very rude not just for taking the camera but because she does it at events where there are a lot of family members and when you're husband isnt there and if you say anything to her you look like the rude one basically the only way to get through is to put your foot down and find out why shes acting that way

Maybe the issue isn't about the camera at all. Maybe she loves the attention. It sounds annoying but if she has a camera and she isn't using it, I suspect that she may not like that camera or it is difficult to use. If the memory is full, maybe she needs a new memory card (Xmas gift). Maybe she needs instructions on how to use hers.

You could always combine gifts w/the rest of the family to get her the camera you have as a surprize.

Either way, relatives can all be annoying. Find a way around this habit of hers. She obviously loves yours...and not hers. Or hers is not a good one. Something....figure it out and try not to be annoyed.

Don't let it get to you. Take it as a complement. She loves you and your camera. So do her a favor and show her how to be as cool as you. Smile, be gracious, and make her the happiest woman in the world. Afterall, she is family and you are stuck with this situation until you opt to change the outcome.

Just ignore her when she tries to get it from you. Or, say something like, "My memory is almost full, and there are a few pictures I'd like to take," or "It's been acting funny, I don't want to loan it out until I get it fixed." or just, "I'm using my camera now, thank you very much."

Since she doesn't do this around your husband, if it's your husband's sister, perhaps you can have him say something to her.

Cut her brakes...

No! No, just kidding...If you can't simply just ignore her or speak up to her when she does things like this, then ask your husband to speak up about it (at the time that it occurs). Don't drudge up old stuff. Wait to see if (or more likely "when") it happens again, and have your hubby ready to step up and stand his ground to his sister.

If this doesn't work, then I'm not kidding about my first suggestion! LOL!!

Good luck!

Just be firm and say, No I want to get this picture. Keep laughing and don't let go. SIL's can sure be annoying.

OH I HAVE A GOOD IDEA FOR THIS ONE!!! TELL HER SURE YOU CAN USE IT BUT PROCEED TO TAKE OUT THE MEMORY CARD AND THEN GIVE HER THE CAMERA! IF SHE ASKS YOU TELL HER "OH I WAS SAVING THIS MEMORY CARD FOR GOOD PICTURES BUT YOU CAN PUT YOUR MEMORY CARD IN THERE THER IS NO PROBLEM WITH THAT I DON'T MIND"

either you or your husband tell her how you feel....... tell her no, you want certain pics. and you don't want to miss them.... tell her that you can't let her and will not let her use your camera no more, my sister in law gets on my nerves, and sometimes, you half to tell them to stop..... he will not get mad, cause it's your camera not hers

It's a control thing. She wants to be in control of you and your husband. Have your husband tell her to stop it.

Keep a tight grip on the camera and say..............NO BIATCH !and then laugh and say "Its a joke", while maintaining the tight grip on the camera. Keep saying its a joke and keep your grip, she will feel stupid.
