I am a retired Flight Attendant. Obviously, in a catastrophic crash a seat belt isn't going to do much of anything for you. That is not what they are designed for!!
The main purpose is to prevent injuries in survivable 'incidents', such as moderate to extreme turbulence (yes, I have seen unbelted passengers and flight attendants fly up and hit the ceiling, resulting in severe injuries), sudden braking on the runway etc. In these cases it may save both you and those sitting near you. All you need is for it to happen once to you, or else witness it to another, and you will be a believer.

In the event of a full cash NO Way kiss it all goodbye BUT if you are in ustable air and the plane loses some altitude in a hurry it keeps your head off the ceiling of the cabin...... which is good so buckle em peeps a even a minor head injury sucks

Have you ever seen the vomit comet? The belt is to keep you from bouncing off the ceiling and other passengers if the plane happens to go zero G when it hits turbulence.

Actually, most aircraft accidents are very surviveable, and yes, seat belts do help.

Seat belts also keep you in your seat during turbulence...and yes, I've hit my head on the ceiling in small planes before. It does NOT feel good.

Ever been tossed from your seat flying through turbulence? I haven't, but only because I keep my belt fastened. But I'll be bloody well pissed if you land your fat @rse on top of me because you're too stupid to fasten yours.

Ever watched the odd plonker who can't wait to retrieve his hand-baggage from the overhead bin get tossed 7 rows forward when the pilot stitches the brakes at the gate? Nearly pissed myself I laughed so hard. At least he only cracked his own empty bonce!

once you've too a lot authorities they're all activity-scared and bigger than prepared to snowball any/each and every little no longer some thing right into a career for themselves, and the off danger to be some type of hero with a medal/trophy.

is basically for keeping you safe when the airplane hits turbulence, remember there are some kind of turbulence that can't be detected , and just hit the plane and everybody in it without warning

i heard somewhere the point of the safety belt isnt to save you its to kill you - if you crash without the belt your body will be thrown around in the plane but you will have a slightly better chance of survival - if you are wearing the belt it apparently holds your waist to the seat but causes your head to jerk forward then whip back breaking your neck and killing you quickly. so on balance its considered a better option

Too too funny...but its in the event that you hit turbulence and go flying into the overhead bins...head first...OUCH!
