But, it's not "bad manner". You might not like it & it might not be what YOUR parents taught you (& I'd be in the same boat w/ you). But, I've never seen any resource on etiquette that says that it's wrong to do so.
It is however very good etiquette to be tolerant of others. That is where you & I would differ.

I've been teaching English to immigrants in Chinatown for several years now and I can say quite definitively that your assertion is ludicrous. Not only that, while scraping your heels while walking may be bad for your feet and posture, it certainly isn't bad manners. However, making sweeping generalizations about an entire race IS bad manners.. and it's also racist. In the future, perhaps you should look for the positive attributes in people before the negative.

The reason you've seen more Asians scape their feet might be because some Asian women have a practice of binding their feet. It's not racist to notice something like that because their is some truth to it however it may be bad manners to point that out in a non discreet way. The sad thing is that foot binding is starting to come back. Below you'll find a link that explains the practice of foot binding.

I doubt you've lived long enough to see every asian walking around...and by the way pointing out bad manners is considered as a bad manner as well

I know Asian people who do not scrape their heels so, in the first place, your criticism was wrong . Secondly "manners" and "etiquete" vary from culture to culture. You should not judge people based on your standards unless you're willing to be judged by theirs.
PS right on Stony . . . my sentiments exactly !

It's a tradition in their country. The Japanese women use to be required to walk that way. Also when their feet were bound, they could not keep the small shoes on, so they drug their heals, yes, we are over those days, but the reason they do this still has stuck with them.

You're making a huge sweeping generalisation about a whole race. Making generalisations about any group is dangerous. People are individuals, most of us have a bad habit or three, most of us have a lot to offer and are in our own way, good people.
