I'm going to Japan in December and the prices are exaclty the same for both companies. Which one of them offers the best in-flight service like meals and the backseat TV thing, and which one offers more space???

Personal preference BA. You can't start the movies at a time to suit you - they are on a tape - which is annoying. BUT I've heard far worse stories about Virgin than BA - eg. the passenger who was crushed by her overweight neighbour - hospitalised and left walking with a stick - eventually awarded £13k in damages but only after going to court (she turned down the gift basket originally offered as compensation). Then there was the 7 hour delay trapped on the plane with only 2 glasses of water (then the flight was cancelled). From friends I've heard this is pretty common practise - no refreshments are offered if they are stuck on the ground. Doesn't fill me with trust.

It has to be Virgin all the way. I've done both and BA were shocking on service and seat pitch, however Virgin have new planes that do have slightly less leg room. Oh and my wife is a travel agent and she tells me there is no way you will get seat upgrades on either airline for free

BA. Every time. I have flown all over the world and you can't beat them, for food, customer service, and I even think you have a better chance of a sneaky upgrade with them. I think with space, there isn't much in it until you get to the pricey tickets. THey offer pretty much the same entertainment, although Virgin I think has slightly newer films on.

Virgin definitely. You have little tvs on the seats in front of you which have remotes and Nintendo. The food is brilliant, you even get a menu beforehand. Free drinks too!

Virgin by a mile. Get yourself a Virgin Atlantic points card & Virgin credit card to gather double points.
Virgin has great pjs in Upper Class & super food/drink. You can also get a head massage at your seat.

When I travelled with Virgin I saw loads of celebs in the rows in front of me...and Richard Branson even came to say hello to everyone and to thank them for flying Virgin..

They are both great airlines
