I recommend pergo flooring for high traffic areas. It usually does not scratch, it looks nice and refined, but does show some dust, pet hair, etc. Large tile is okay but the grout can become very dirty if it is a lighter color. Save carpet for bedrooms.

I am a huge fan of that large stone tile. I had two rooms done with it. Sweep, swiff, mop. And when it's installed, I had 30+ colors of grout to choose from, so I went with a medium grey grout.

I swear linoleum is harder to clean, and no carpet. At least with tile you can always put down a large throw rug if the floor gets cold.
