I recently found out that my car insurance was cancelled through my ins. company. I know I need to get a new policy asap. I have been told that the state charges the driver a certain amount for everyday that they are driving a registered car without any car insurance. Is this true and does anyone know how much it is in the state of Florida?

What if I fail to keep insurance on my vehicle that I have registered in Florida?

The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is authorized to suspend your driving privilege, including your vehicle tag and registration, for up to three years or until proof of Florida insurance is provided, whichever is first.

If my driving privilege is suspended because I am not properly insured, is there a penalty to reinstate my license?

Yes. A reinstatement fee of $150 up to $500, for subsequent violations, must be paid and you must provide proof of current Florida insurance.

Prior post is correct - driving without insurance can cause your license to get suspended, and it could be 150 to 500 for you to get your license reinstated. If you get caught driving with a suspended license, plan on another ticket/fine/time served/etc. If you have an accident while driving uninsured, plan to pay for your own medical bills, your passenger's medical bills, the other guy's medical bills (if you're at fault), pay to fix your own car, pay to fix the other guy's car (if you're at fault), and plan to carry an SR22 for a while (a way for the state to keep a finger on you and ensure that you are carrying insurance).

Overall, it's not a smart move to drive without it. Take the bus or get a ride until you can get the proper coverage.
