I am atheist, but I don't get into all that strange abusive stuff.
You are right. The energy they pour into it reveals a deep-seated obsession with God. You don't have to scream and yell to disprove the thing unless deep down, it is driving you nuts.
There is obviously some sort of conflict they are trying to resolve, and they take it out on others instead of going into themselves, into their core self.
They are being dishonest on some level, and dishonest people are always the most obnoxious to others.

Jesus DID exist - that is known. However, it is also known that to call him the "messiah" is a distortion of history - "messiah" in Jesus's time meant "he who will lead the Jews out of occupation by the Roman Empire", and clearly he didn't do that. Also, the Romans did not take down anybody off of a cross after 3 hours - they left them up there to rot as an "example" to all those who disobey the Roman Empire, so the resurrection is metaphorical, and NOT real. In one gospel it says that Jesus said nothing in his last moments on the cross, and in another it says that he did, and a modern analysis has shown that crucifixion is a form of suffocation so it would have been impossible for Jesus to talk. Its not so much that the atheists are trying to disprove the existence of God, its more that they are fed up with the religious fanatics who are trying to convert them by 'ramming it down their throats" with threats of burning in hell for all eternity (which the atheists know to be false as hell doesn't really exist - it is also a metaphor based on a place called "Gehenna"), and are sick to death of the religious fanatics evil deeds in the name of religion, such as the Crusades, the Inquisitions, the witch burnings, etc., and their saying things which are clearly historically inaccurate. Watch the PBS Special "The First Christians" and you will learn that Jesus was NOT worshipped as God for several hundred years after the crucifixion. They want to let the world know the truth, and they are fed up with the lies. BTW: Christians can be equally nasty - it works both ways, because PEOPLE can be nasty. If you want to believe in the resurrection of Jesus, that is your business, but if you study the history of the early Christian church you will see that the whole thing falls apart under the scrutiny of historical examination.

Atheist honestly dont have to disprove whats never been proven. Everyone is interested in discussion, and religion is a hot topic. Some are here to cause trouble on both sides and its easy to spot the sincere ones and the trolls.
Its true we see some of the believers as mindless fanatics, but that's only because there is no discussion with them. They argue from a emotional stand point and there is no way to get through that wall.
Disproving god would be difficult since there is something like 4000 of them worshiped on the planet. Xianity is just the one working hard to impose itself in our education and politics.

Disproof takes a few minutes where as proof takes forever.
Even Christ didn't believe as most ignorant pseudo christians do ; their words meaning of is so childish and twisted a good many spiritual beings outside formal religion would rather claim atheism instead of cop to a moronic false god as most . when men begin to grow up to an intelligent version of God that makes sense u will find many atheists more accepting nothing even similar in this truth to what u seem to profess in such twisted
parroted utterances sorry you'll probably never learn unless it hits you thirty to forty yrs down the road...bye my friend

Well, I was wondering the same as you do.
I used to believe I was an "atheist", but once I saw all those so-called atheists so much involved in debates about deity (and especially the deity worshiped by Christians), I thought that "atheist" label didn't suit me.
Given that I don't trust any kind of religious nor spiritual beliefs, I am an Unbeliever - and that's all.
I thought that real atheists didn't even feel the need to talk about "god"... I was wrong.

I would say on average we atheist spend about the same amount of time denying the existence, as Christians do trying to prove existence. Either way the effort is wasted, because those deluded enough to truly believe cannot be dissuaded, and those who truly do not believe cannot be convinced. So I believe the only way to deal with it is to allow both sides to believe what they will, and just allow each other to live in peace. As long as it doesn't personally effect you what difference does it make to you.

People who fight hard to disprove God are those who badly needed to convince themselves that God does not exist.
In one time or another, they will feel God. However, they would choose to deny it because of past sentiments, hurts or disappointments. It's a lot like running away and denying our parents when they disappoint us. But God disciplines those whom He loves. For every trial He gives His children, He always provides a way to work through it. As children, all we need to do is find it within us. In so doing, we find God's protection and we won't have to be crying in silence that God does not exist. He is there, hear Him in your heart.

Atheists and agnostics (at least here in the US) want to protect everyone from the tendency toward theocracy in this country. As long as God is on the money, in the pledge of allegiance, etc.; as long as there are "blue" laws that forbid the selling of alcohol on sundays; as long as there are states that forbid atheists from holding public office (there are still 7); as long as there are Bibles in court and crosses in national burial sites; as long as Presidents can stand by campain statements like " ...I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God." (1) one form of religion (theism, with strong Christian overtones) is being nationally established over others. Federal money is given to organizations that will not let an atheist join (for example, the Boy Scouts), and to religious organizations as "social work groups". This is why Atheists and Agnostics are interested in religion, because it is eroding our constitution.

B/c we feel a 'need' to disprove a hypothesis that is very erroneous, yet used in the past to kill and now it's still trying to take over. Right now, it has a strong influence on the gov't.

I wouldn't say non believers spend a lot of time trying to disprove "God" and Jesus. They can't disprove "God" any more than you can disprove the existence of vampires or Peter Pan. "Non believers" state their opinions, the same as you do.
