Because companies charge extra for the "convenience" factor, most people who stop at the gas station for a soda pop prefer a cold single serving, instead of buying a big (usually room temp) 2 liter bottle.

You pay for the convenience factor. You could buy a 60 oz fountain drink for cheaper than a 20 oz bottle of pop because it is easier for people to grab a 20 oz bottle from the cooler than to pour their own.

Because the manufacturing of sugary syrup and water with carbon dioxide costs pretty much next to nothing - it is one reason the cinema theatres push so hard to sell litres of "pop" with an huge marke up as they make more on this and popcorn than on cinema tickets...in short the making of the bottles costs more than the contents with costs amotorised the greater the volume...hope that helps

It's a matter of convenience. You usually don't pick up a 2-liter and sip out of it, and put it in the cup holder of your car, and take it in to work/class/etc... , so you're paying for convenience. Same type of principle as if you go to a 7-eleven and a bottle of Aspirin is almost double in price as that you can get at a pharmacy...you pay for the convenience of location and time.

CONVENIENCE
In America we always pay more for convenience. Who would carry a 2lit bottle around with them?? But a 1lit bottle is convenient to carry. Ask why a package of 8 hot dog and a package of 8 buns are both about a dollar yet a hot dog from the corner store is 2.50 just for one. Convenience.

Convenience. As a grab and go item, you'll pay more. Take a look at any product that is packaged for a single meal, snack. You'll pay anywhere from a buck to a couple and you can buy an 8 pack for probably a few quarters more.

If you're speaking of prices in gas stations & convenience stores, it's the convenience of it. It wouldn't be easy to drink a (probably warm) 2 liter bottle driving down the road.

for the same reason that a 20 oz cost as much as a 2 liter... They are a convenience for consumers so they charge more...
It's the exact same reason gas stations charge so much for the groceries they sell... They can charge more because it's easier to buy thus being more convenient..
