What is the U.S. college dropout rate? Why do people drop out?

The dropout figures can certainly be found, but I don't have them at hand. So many people drop out for a number of reasons. Of course there may be personal or financial reasons, but simply many people are not prepared. College and university courses should be difficult. I want my professionals in society to be well trained (think about that next time you drive across a bridge, or are in the hospital). The system in the US is far to much of a feel-good system, allowing everyone (almost) a 'chance'. Many people just do not have the prior education, the organizational habits, or the intellect for the competitive higher learning environment.

According to this, only 54% of people entering into college had their degree six years after enrolling.

You should have attended Southern Il. Univ.. I lived at lest 9 blocks from campus and walked summer, winter spring and fall to class. I was a "one time" loser having learned to drink, do sex and party at my first school. Graduates are not made they are the results of effort.
Too bad you arrive at school so early! I was up at 7 am and at class by 9. All of your items are excuses --not reasons. I provided my own money for my education, My parents could not afford to send me to college. As for you, "No guts no glory!".

You made your bed of roses and its future reminders of the poor path you have chosen. Futures are not chosen they are won!

I don't know the rate, but I dropped out. I dropped because I just didn't have the motivation to go, my classes bored me to tears, you literally had to arrive 1 hour before your class to find a parking spot that required a 10 minute hike to your class, it just wasn't for me.
