If your in the UK then you can register your number with the Telephone Preference Service. Once registered, after 28 days, it is illegal for any telemarketing company to contact your number.

Here is a link to the online page

This service is free of charge.

First by law if you tell them " Put me on your do not call list " they must mark you down on there do not call list. You have to specificly state that you want to be put on the do not call list other wise they will work around it.

Second Register with the National Do Not Call Registry.

Finally, have you ever entered one of those win a free car contest at the Mall or grocery store? Or sign up for a online survey? Well that's how they get your number or e-mails. So just be a little more wary.

Bt block does help. i have learnt to hear one sentence and then break in quickly,as they seem to prattle on before you can stop them. if they try to keep you on longer say that you will put the phone down,as they are not respecting you when you say that you are not interested. in fact if you did put the phone down , they are not likely to take it personally ,as i am sure they are aware that they are annoying. i do feel sorry for them ,as it may be a means for employment , but once you have said no-it's no.

if they are selling double glazing or stuff for the house tell them your a tenant and they should contact the owner of the house. if its insurance or stuff like that tell them you already have some and politely say goodbye! They are only doning a job and a horrible job it would be if everyone hung up or gave them abuse! be polite but firm!
