No-one should be allowed to carry a knife on an aeroplane. It's got to be the same rule for everyone irrespective of their race or religious beliefs.

Sikh Police Officers are not allowed to carry knives so Sikh passengers certainly shouldn't

I wouldn't be worried.

I understand that Sikhism allows its followers to carry harmless ceremonial knives for situations where real knives aren't allowed.

Besides which, it's not Sikhs that I would be very worried about - there aren't any Sikh terrorist organizations that I know of that target the United States. I'd be more worried about Muslims pretending to be Sikhs.

And even if terrorists do bring knives on board, quite likely on September 11th they were only able to get control of the plane because the passengers assumed this would be like other hijackings - they'd land the plane somewhere, hold everybody hostage, and make demands. Nowadays passengers will assume that if terrorists succeed in getting control of a plane, they might as well consider themselves dead.

You obviously know nothing of the people or the culture.

I'd far rather have an armed Sikh on the plane than some of the wankers we have working security on the ground!

What's your reference for that? It is my understaning that no knives are allowed on airplanes. Religion is no excuse. Maybe I'll invent a religion that requires women to show me their breasts at my command and then sue them for violating my religious freedoms when they don't comply. Wouldn't that be fun if I got a woman judge? See how ridiculous these "religious requirements" are?

I don't know much about Sikhs but I wouldn't put it past a terrorist to play one in order to get a weapon onboard an aircraft.
