I didn't mean to offend anyone. I had a serious medical question. If anyone is "very offended" please report me.

i was wondering about this-for example,if a knife has pierced ur chest or stomach,ur supposed to leave it in place,as it is now blocking ur arteries.if u pull it out,u'll cut the veins and arteries even more, and u'll bleed to death immediately.only drs can remove it in the hospital, very carefully.then again, stingrays have venomous spines, and that poison was right in his heart-maybe if he had got to the hospital really quick, and had the venom de-activated?its a hard call, things like this happen so fast...ps-please dont listen to that h8er who dissed ur question.if u are in a medical proffession(as i was),or if u are considering a medical career,or just think along med/scientific lines, this is ABSOLUTELY the first question that would have occred to u.we feel sad, yes.but nothing stops those medical wheels turning.ur curiosity is commendable, and i think u would be gr8 as a paramedic-u ask the right questions.for us,its about saving lives.(former nurse).

I wondered that as well. As to Yahoo nickname I don't think this is a bad question. Everyone is wondering the same thing. AND he did not die instantly. He was alive long enough to pull it out.

I think he would have died anyway, the spine had poison on it and it was directly in his heart. I think he really had no chance of survival.

I will miss him and my prayers go out to his family. My son had a true hero in Mr. Irwin and I'm glad we had as long as we did :)

I doubt it. The spine went directly into his heart, injectioning the venom. If there had been a emergency medical crew on site, he would have had a chance, but the fact that they were in the middle of no where and even to the medivac was 30+ minutes, he didn't have a chance. What a loss.

"He died instantly" ....I have never understood why people use that line....do you really know if death like that is instantly....sure doctors can tell when the heart stopped...but how do you know that in that last minute might have been the longest minute of his life (and death for that matter)...for example have you ever been in a accident and the seconds it takes to happen seem to last forever? Maybe the pain of a death like that lasts forever???

No chance without immediate professional medical attention.

Not likely. The barb punctured his heart.

To those of you preaching that he died instantly, that's not true. Go check out the latest on CNN. They mention that he did in fact pull the barb out.

i don't think so because it was a 30 minute ride to the shore where he then was treated with by then medics - by then he would have hemmoraghed internally.

He was killed instantly- as soon as it punctured his heart. He didn't pull it out. Or I don't think so- because his partner/manager said it was instant.
