Weedee said it best. Because it is crazy entertaining to us that religious people go on so feverently believeing something with absolutely NO Proof. Oh, your proof is some old book, full of myths, downright fairytale stories, and a "you just have to believe" attitude. Just because it is in an old book, does not make it any more true. And yes, atheists do feel enlightened. Everytime I hear some idiotic televangelist say that 9/11 happened because God is angry at us, I laugh because I know he is giggling when he cashes your checks! If you want to believe some dark ages superstition, have fun. But for me, I'll take science and reason. Oh, one more thing, religion does not equal morality. I love it that religious nuts think if you don't believe in God you must be evil, immoral, and unethical.
What would Jesus do? He'd pull out, promise to call her tomorrow, then split town. Cause, that's how he rolls....
What a PIMP.

People are not making fun of God and more than they're making fun of the Loch Ness Monster. There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that God exists, except in your mind, no matter how much you convince yourself that it's true. The fact is that God is just a fantasy. God is just another fake creation by man.
Humanity has created many Gods, for example – Gods of Olympus, Ancient Egypt, Babylon and so on. Most of us are atheists about most Gods humanity has created, except the latest craze, the current God in the Bible. Learned atheists have also rejected this version of a God, but some hard-core believers still hang on, presumably until a better image of God is created by man.
Faith in God seems to be nothing more than humans attempting to run away from reality, an excuse to avoid thinking and evaluating evidence. Faith is just an emotional escape and really just a substitute for opening your eyes to reason.
Believers talk about God creating man in his own image. It’s in the Bible so it’s fact – get a grip, get real. The facts suggest the exact opposite. Man created God in his own image. I’m sure humanity will disregard this God, as they have disregarded all previous Gods, it’s just a matter of time before humanity creates another God that better serves their emotions and image.

Mostly people get a feeling of contentment for mocking something that they cannot explain or comprehend. It is somewhat comparable to generalizing about other cultures and religions without trying to get to know them. Fear of the unknown is the greatest fear, and it makes people more comfortable to mock what they fear then it does to try and understand it. Generally, though, I think it is more religion than God that they are making fun of.

People who are not believers or those who require absolutes have a hard time believing in something or someone that is based on faith. In order to believe in God you must have faith that he really did/does exist. So that being said people will make fun of or poke holes in the theory of God's existence. Just remember that even non-believers are people too. They have their own believes and just because it is different doesn't make it wrong. Same goes for other religions.

It's a little hard to answer without a specific example, but I think a lot of what you consider "mocking God" can probably fall into one of three categories:
1. People who don't believe in a god, and are using it as a way to mock the religious
2. People who don't believe in a god, and use it as a shock tactic to try to get the religious to re-examine their assumptions
3. People who just think it's funny.

I have not seen anyone making fun of God. I am sure that it happens though. Belief in God is spiritual, and not everyone can relate to something that cannot be proven. I see people mocking the religious fanatics. I do it all the time because they infuriate me.

He is a fictional, self-centered, biggoted dictator at worst, and a lazy absentee landlord at best. I try to anger him into proveing to me that he exists at all. I've been trying for years to no avail, and am convinced by this and many other things that he simply doesn't exist at all. Makeing fun of "him" is fun because we aren't really hurting anyone, and at the heart of what we say is a grain of truth. That's why it offends you so much. If you were able to step back out of the cloud that your religion has you in you'd see it too.

I can only speak for myself. The "enjoyment" is more of a "vindication" or "satisfaction" of being able to spit into the face of what abused and hurt me: NOT "GOD," RELIGIOUS ABUSE. I abhore what mainstream Christianity does to people's psyches and feelings. It oppresses, lies and takes advantage of trusting people. When you become one of the messengers, you become a destroyer of what is good. To me, religion is an addiction that takes hold of people and makes them ugly and mean. I equate "Jesus freaks" to lowdown drug addicts; only, this addiction is fed through afflicting other people. It is dangerous and for that reason, I speak. If it comes across as "mockery," I understand the offense taken. Unfortunately, I am not sorry for my words nor the delivery of them. RELIGION IS A MOCKERY, in and of itself. Anyone who is completely honest about it, would have to laugh. It's brainless humor, and should be viewed as entertainment. Laughing at it takes away its power.

I asked myself that very same question when I just read the question "While Jesus didn't have anything to do for a while, did he just eat a Snickers bar and ....". I must confess I just don't get it. Jesus was a a beautiful person AND the son of God, and there is NOTHING funny about that. You know what I think?
Ignorance. And quite possibly the fear that God is in control, and not the individual himself.
