She is acting weird and depressed. She will bark randomly and start whining with no explanation. She seems sad and I've tried to make her happy (pet her, relax her, pay EXTRA attention to her) and it seems she will be happy for a little bit but then she's back to whining and barking. I'm worried about her and it seems liek she can't decide between "Out & In" she keeps whining (like a cry). She's young too only 8 mnth's old...Any idea what happened to her?

What kind of dog is she? It sounds to me like she's just a little bit spoiled and is whining and barking because you've conditioned her to do it - she knows you'll pay attention to her when she whines, so she whines. She has you well trained!

What you can try if you want her to stop, is just get a little tougher with her - by that I mean ignore her when she whines or tell her no. When she's quiet, then you go over and play with her or talk to her, and if you're consistent, she'll learn that she gets attention from you when she's quiet, not when she whines.

Since she is a hurricane rescue dog, it may be she senses storms and gets nervous. Dogs don't have a concept of time or anniversaries, but since this is the time of year it happened, she probably realizes the season is here & is extra upset by storms. You may want to consult a local obedience training club to find one that has an animal behavior specialist. Consult with them about ways to help her get past this nervousness. A vet may also prescribe something to calm her. If she gets really bad at times, you can give her a Benadryl tablet - this is a temporary home remedy that calms dogs down. Just use it sparingly when needed - such as when a storm is coming at night.

It sounds like she might be in pain. She could have many reasons for this pain. As the first person suggested as a joke, they actually do have dog happy pills. I think she is just sick. Take her to the vet and they might be of more help. It could be anything from a thorn in her paw to indigestion, the start of a cold, or a bladder infection. Take your dog and sit next to her, not in front of her. Touch her slightly harder than a petting hand would all over her body, including her ears and feet. If she flinches at any point, make sure the vet checks there. Make sure to push a little on her belly and check her ears to see if they are red. Dogs release heat in their ears, so it is sometimes easy to tell if she has a fever by looking in her ears. Most important, take her to a vet you trust.

Get your dog to a vet!! There are too many health issues that could be wrong! While there, ask the vet for lessons on being a responsible pet owner! Don't use the vet as a last resort, yahoo answers can NOT dx your dogs issues. Poisoned? Twisted insides? Worms? Ate a foreign object? Could it just be gas? Change of diet? HBC? Fall from steps? Chewed a stick and it caught in it's mouth, throat, stomach, intestine? SOOO many possibilities! Could be serious...maybe not. ONLY a vet can tell! Please take him!

dogs get what we call depressed and/or anxious for several reasons:
1. They are poorly bred and are naturally nervous
2. They are in pain
3. She is in heat
4. There is something in her mouth, ears, or some other part of her body that is irritating.
5. She may have her anal glands too full, and they may need to be expressed. (It's a rather painful procedure, done only by your vet
Seek your vet's attention.

If this is something new, then the problem is something new.... see your vet. It isn't anything that you can deal with or cure.

p.s. dogs have no idea that it is an anniversary of anything

Unless there is something more serious going on, I would not rush to the emergency vet. Keep looking at your puppy very closely just like you are doing right now and note any changes. It would also help to write down what you see every day and how long it has been happening for to show the vet. It might help also to take your puppy for a walk to see if she is interested in this. Good luck!!!!

first best remedy: take they dog around a park for a long time or until it starts to pant..then give water and walk more..the dog should brighten...dogs need to be outdoorssometimes..its natural for em...the dog just may need a long walk...always have plenty of water becuase dogs cant sweat they pant...youll figure out when you have walked too much (some breeds are suseptible to heat stroke...pit bulls and some little dogs) but exersice helps EVERYBODYS SOULS MINDS HEALTH ETC if that doesnt help then it may need more nutritious food like science diet...you may just need to cuddle with her more when shes not getting that extra attention...or may need a dog friend..good luck dang if the dog has ear problems she needs that fixed because the ears are pretty important good luck again

This sounds like natural canine behavior, your additional attention is actually causing more problems than the normal development. at around 8 months in a dogs life they start what is the equivilant of the teen age years in humans. the changes in hormone levels which can cause behavior changes. Many small breeds may have their first heat at around this time. please consult with your veterinarian and a behaviorist for more information on canine behavior.

TAKE HER THE VET. I SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO ANOTHER DOG HE QUIT EATTIN AND DRINKING. THE VET SAID IT WAS BECAUSE HE HAD LOST HIS CAT FRIEND. THE CAT DIED A WEEK BEFORE. THEY DID HAVE TO GIVE THE DOG A HAPPY SHOT THE SHOT WORKS WITHIN 24 HOURS. THIS WILL BRING THE ENERGY LEVEL BACK. SO YOUR PET MAY JUST NEED A FRIEND THIS ALSO HELPS ALOT. MY DOG HAS 2 FERRETS TO PLAY WITH.

My dog does that "out or in" thing ALL DAY LONG. It is so annoying. She whines.. I ask "Do you want to go outside?" and she turns her head hard to the left... I ask again... she turns her head hard to the right. So... I take her out... as soon as I bring her in... she whines again!!! I don't understand it either....
