From where and what day and time? From the eastern edge of the Los Angeles area (think Ontario and east), it can be done safely in 3 or 3.5 hours if you hit no traffic and there are no cal trans projects.

From Malibu, it could easily take 7 hours if you leave at 4 on Friday night.

It's best to go against the traffic, so not leaving on a Thursday or Friday, and to simply add on the time it takes you to get through the LA area.

Good luck to you. : )

I love the trip from Los Angeles to Vegas, I always volunteer to drive.

Depending on traffic, it should take at least 4 hours and at most 6/7 hours. I usually leave early before noon, but if I have to leave late, I leave around 6/7pm. Its about 300 miles.

This is how I see it, Victorville is the 1/4 mark, Barstow is the 1/2 mark, baker is the 3/4 mark and State line is "just 30 more minutes to go!"

Not sure if you've ever driven there, but I suggest getting books on tape/cd and have mixed cds, it'll make the trip much more enjoyable.

Take it from someone who has done it several times....

Generally speaking its about 4 hours and 250 or so miles. The big question mark will be the traffic you hit around the LA area. Once you get out of the LA area its smooth sailing through desert roads and little traffic. If you get hit with bad traffic around LAX that will add significantly to your journey time. If you leave early or late enough, you should be looking at about 4 boring hours of travel.

If there are no road restrictions like there have been for the past several years, if you drive the posted speed limit you can take 215 through Pasadena to avoid I10 traffic you can be there in 4 1/2 hours if you only stop one time for fuel. If there are lane closures, or rush hour traffic it could take twice as long. It's best to leave before noon if you're going on a Friday.

Because of the current and future road construction in the "pass" the trip is longer than before. If you are talking about traveling on Friday night or the weekend, plan EIGHT HOURS. If you are traveling during the week you may be able to cut it down to FIVE.

Vegas is my favorite place for weekend getaway. I assume you will drive from downtown L.A. Without traffic, it takes only 4 hours to get there (I assume you don't need to make many bathroom stops.) With traffic, it can take forever to get there. One time, my friend took 10 hours to drive back from Vegas on July 4th weekend.
