I'm gonna be working in NYC for the next couple of years, but I can't afford to live in Manhatten. So what is better, Brooklyn or NJ.... I don't like Queens nor the Bronx.

I'm from Brooklyn originally and I lived there for 37 years.

There are many different neighborhoods in Brooklyn and you could find out about them. Wikipedia has a very nice article that will tell you everything you need to know.

Brooklyn Heights is very close to Manhattan and very beautiful - there is the promenade by the water.

Also, Park Slope is a very nice area with brownstone houses (maybe they are expensive).

I'm not sure whether you mean better in terms of quality of life and/or transportation (how long it will take you to get from there to Manhattan and/or variety of ways to get around). There is the subway, public and private buses and your own two feet - anyway, you will get where you are going.

Quality of life - well, Brooklyn has many cultural institutions - Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Library just to name a few. Also, the people of Brooklyn (just generalizing) are down to earth, the salt of the earth people - so you will like them.

Also, many great people are originally from Brooklyn (Woody Allen and Barbara Streisand for example).

Go live in Brooklyn - be beautiful and bold and become a Brooklynite and hobnob with all the great originals.

Hoboken is just as expensive as Manhattan, but other parts of Jersey are definitely more affordable. Just be aware of how you will get to work - commuting availability should be a MAJOR determinant of where you choose. Brooklyn has the edge (slightly) over Jersey on that count.

It depends on what part of Jersey. I, personally would pick Jersey cause I'm a Jersey girl myself.

New Jersey is filled with Italians and jews. Brooklyn is filled with only jews and god knows what! Those are your choices. Unless you choose not work in NYC which would be your best choice!
