He gave us free will so we would choose to follow him and love him. The ten commandments were put into place to give us direction.

If you knew that the ten commandments were narrowed down to two in the New Testament would you know that even Buddhist think it is wrong to kill also meaning to hate? Views can be expressed better when flourished to the full extent, so, you should learn more about all religions. God bless.

The Ten Commandments were given by God for our benefit. If you don't agree with this which one would you get rid of?
The 1st 3 deal with our relationship with God. It is a good idea to maintain a healthy, close relationship with God. If He made us then He probably has a good idea of what is good for us.
The 4the commandment tells us to rest on the "sabbath". I love having a day off. It's good for me physically, mentally and spritually. How 'bout you?
The rest of the commandments tell us not to do such things as :
Steal, murder, commit adultry, envy, lie...
Which one of these "forbidden" things would benefit us?
God gave us free will to choose. We can either choose to trust Him Who made us and gave Himself for us. Or we can choose to trust our own way.... the results of which are why laws and commandments were created in the first place.
Why did He give us free will? Perhaps so that we would enjoy the benefits of choosing to follow Him.

I'm not familiar with the Christina sense of God. Are we talking about Aguilera here? Judging by her videos I'm all for any commandments going down there ...

Actually I don't see anything that in the Bible that explicitly says we have free will. I agree a lot with what Buddhism says and many Buddhist values

You can not walk a line unless you know what it is!
You can not play a game unless you know the rules
In a Game lets say poker, once you know the rules then you can chose to cheat!
As a buddhist is there nothing you can not do, rob, steal, kill, spit at a temple?

Because he wanted to give us the choice weather we wanted to follow him or not. If we choose to Jesus says "my yoke is easy and by burden is light". The more of Gods laws and principles we apply into our life the easier the next one becomes.

he gave us free will and we (adam, eve and decendants) abused it. God wanted us to be perfect so he laid down a set of rules to protect his people which was then replaced by the teachings of jesus. that way we can return to our original state of everylasting life on earth
