I'm making a delicious pot roast for dinner tonight in the crock pot. It will be cooking for about 7 hours on low. I would like to add mushrooms to it. Should I put them in now (just started cooking) or wait until 2-3 hours before the roast is done? I don't want to overcook them (I'm using sliced baby bellas).

wait till around an hour before your ready to eat them. you dont want to cook them too long bellas are best with a lil texture. and they will also absorb the flavors from the other ingredients. it will be yummy. trust me im a chef

If you don't want to overcook them then put them in about 2 hours before you want the roast to be done. Any longer in the slow cooker and they will be real mushy and kinda slimy and wont taste too good at all, because they're sitting in water the whole time. If you make an Italian dish and put them in there in sauce, you can have them in for hours on end and they wont be slimy or mushy at all. Hope this helps!

Add them in the last hour of your crock pot but remember when you open the lid of the crock pot to add some extra time to the cooking time. So don't leave the lid off too long.

It depends on your taste. If you want them shriveled and mushy (some people do), put them in now. If you want them to retain some texture and shape, put them in about 3-4 hours before your roast is done. Good luck :)

I would wait til an hour before it is done, that way they will still retain their shape, but still absorb all the flavors. that is what I do.

Add them later. If you are not around to do so, just fry them in a little butter and add them before you serve.
