I'm not an atheist but neither do I belong to any religion at the moment. I believe atheists have as much right as theists to answer in this section because it is not just a religion section it is a spirituality section. They have a right to discuss their spirituality(or lack thereof) too. Just want people's ideas, don't want pointless arguements. Thanks!

I do not have a problem with Atheists, but I do have a problem with Christians. Atheists are cool, even though I know absolutly nothing about them, they sound like really neat people. Its the Christians who have a problem with Atheists. The Christians believe that they are the one true religion, therefore will bash any other beliefs until they have had their fill. I have seen the harshness people have been giving the Atheists, and I think its creul. People should be allowed to believe what they believe on here, this isnt only for Christians....

Blessed be!!!!

Its not necessarily about what you believe, sometimes its a matter of how you express yourself and how tolerant or intolerant you are when it comes to other peoples ideas that don't coincide with yours. Some people take these things to the limit, there are those that think believers are ridiculous and childish, others think that non-believers are all children of Satan. Well, I know a lot of believers and non-believers and on both sides there are good people, so-so people and idiots. This is life, everyone thinks he/she has the answer. None of us truly know why we are here, what happens after we die, etc. So we make up a bunch of stories and different people choose to believe different stories. I say make the most of it, whatever your belief, live by the golden rule and do your best to make this place a little better than you found it. Can we really do any more than that?

I find it funny how those who don't believe in god. Are pitied by those who do. God doesn't exist. God was an invention by man so that man could explain where they came from. The oldest question man has asked is what is the meaning of life and what is beyond it.

Since there isn't any real answer to that they had to come up with something to tell there children. I will not go to hell I will not go to heaven. all that will happen is that my energy will be dispersed though out the universe like any other star that explodes.

I pity those who believe an an invisible man in the sky that will shun you for not doing what he says and let you kiss his feet if you do what you're told. I think it was best said " Oh My God! I'm a sinner and God's a pervert. " lol

I love life but God has nothing to do with the world. If I have to believe in God I have to believe in Zeus, Vishnu, Anansi. No god is better than another god. Religion just breeds war. Look at the Crusades, look at the Inquisition and look at modern day Israel.

Religious people are trained to not be open minded. I don't hate Your god and I don't hate religion. I just think that it's about time that those who think that everyone that doesn't believe in God should just leave those of us who don't alone and stop hating. I don't try to convert you out of Christianity or Mormonism don't try to convert me in.

someone said something about how some atheists mock believers. well....believers mock atheists too.

its an endless cycle. when debating ends and childish name calling starts is where the problems begin.

someones else stated, "i don't have a problem with atheists..."and in the same breath said, "it's not my fault they will go to hell". just proves my point.
that is a masked insult.
same thing if a atheist had said, "i don't have a problem with theists...it's not my fault they are delusional."

sometimes we need to agree to disagree and go to our own corners. it's the Internet people. I've never seen such a large group of people *atheist and theist alike* get their panties in a bunch so quickly!

Some theists exist in very closed communities - that is, they co-exist with very like-minded people sharing very similar beliefs, political views, dietary habits, incomes, prospects and lifestyles. That is all fair enough. But one consequence of this is that such people - it's worth stressing that they are probably a minority, but we've all seen them pop up with this old chestnut in R&S - very rarely encounter opposition to their thinking. If they ask their neighbour, "Do you think that atheists will all burn in hell?", they will never, ever meet with any kind of debate. They are starved of such things. They would never encounter spiritual disagreement within the walls of their church. And they are very uncomfortable with the idea of someone questioning the beliefs they hold dear, and will resort to all kinds of rationalization methods to overcome this ("they are merely afraid of the truth of Jesus"; "they worship satan"; "they are in for a big shock on the day of judgement", etc). Some of these people now regard the intervention by atheists in R&S - even, it would seem, in open questions about how horrid atheists are - as akin to someone coming into their church and denouncing their god. Questioning the rights of atheists to comment in R&S, ignoring the fact that atheists probably have a far more intimate acquaintence with spiritual matters than a lot of half-hearted "Christians", is merely a defence mechanism.

The good news is that it's good for them to put up with us. They will encounter, perhaps for the first time in some cases, genuine debate, rather than by answering any question with, "It says in the bible...". So we owe it to them to keep on intervening. They are free to ignore us if they don't like what we say.

Dear Lex :-)

Let's be pragmatical.

We are watching a monitor. We are watching a kind of forum.
Right now, lots of Americans are on-line and are watching a similar monitor as ours.

What happens in the USA is very different from what happens in Europe (I live in France).

It seems to me that most of Americans don't accept easily others' different beliefs.

I don't notice such an intolerance in France's "religion & spirituality"-section. I only see this in the international (mostly american in their day-time) section.

In my view, the real question is "Why do most of Americans have such a problem with atheists in this section?"

a million. this is the situation to debate faith and spirituality -- despite in case you're religious or religious or no longer. 2. very almost all the verses from the bible make no sense. 3. No, this is rational -- no info exists on your god, for this reason there's no reason to think of he's authentic. 4. i'm in no way offended, i'm particularly chuffed. Snide comments, relatively on the subject of the main unaware of the posters right here making the silliest of comments, are many times particularly humorous. 5. i do no longer hate each individual or something -- yet interestingly you do. in case you do no longer hate athiests, why do you opt to do away with them from a public talk board? in case your techniques or ideals have any relatively worth, they must be waiting to stand as much as severe examination, criticism, and prognosis. in the event that they are able to't, what good are they? Making the "undesirable human beings" who question them bypass away does not be certain the questions... Peace.

Hi Lex, welcome to our little angry world. The Christians are very hostile towards us because we have questions about their religion that they can't answer. They can't give us a good reason why "god" doesn't save children from being killed by horrible people. Why a good kind person can have a bizarre random tragic death and those who would be deserving of such a death live into their 90's and with wealth. We have good questions, and many of us used be christians until we examined the bible more closely and found it to be too flawed and full of contradictions for us to blindly follow. So, they damn us to hell for haveing a brain to ask with and useing it for something besides worshipping something we feel doesn't exist. We tease them for following blindly like sheep. Come play with us.......

I agree with you, but man, those people who answered before me with "They're missing the whole point of existence" and "It's not my fault they'll go to hell" really make me angry. I'm no Christian, but I thought there was a little rule about no one judging anyone else but your god, guys. You ask why some Atheists are so angry at Christians? THAT'S why. Because you say things like that. So buy a ladder and get over yourselves.

This rant was not aimed at you, oh question poster. :)

Lets see... all the religions out there and everybody miraculously believes that whatever their parents believed is the right one.

I'm atheist, but if there were gods then there'd certainly be more than one. Think about it. Everything living in this world comes from 2. Nothing can reproduce by itself.

Long ago man looked to the sky for the answers, and all he saw was himself... ironic isn't it?
