Stir in the sifted ingredients alternately with sour cream, then mix in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely

The chocolate chips do soften - and to an extent they do melt (it depends on the type of chocolate chips); if they are not touched, they keep their shape. When the cookies cool to room temperature, the chocolate becomes firm again.

first of all you don't cook chocolate cookies you bake them and second of all they are inside of the cookie and are revealed once the cookie has finally spread across the cookie sheet and the chocolate pieces do melt but they cool down back into the form from the they were made

They do melt and if they were touched they would spread. They are not cooked at a high enough temp or long enough to melt them down, and after you take them out they cool and the chip harden.

The chocolate melts at a higher temperature than the oven is set at.
If it melts at all it's only slightly and it solidifies as the cookie cools.

My guess is the the cookies are cooked to certain stage then a little man pops out with a bag of chocolate chips and sprinkles them on the top.The cookies are then returned to oven to complete a very short cooking process.
My theory anyway.

The chips are frozen to something like minus 50 degrees then mixed with the dough . it` s the same way they get the chocolate onto ice cream only that its the ice cream frozen to minus 50 degrees then dipped into the hot chocolate , theres a program on tv called how do they do that . and it was on there about 2 weeks ago .

1. Bigger chunks of chocolate
2. Better quality of chocolate (rather than industrial cooking stuff).
3. Bitter/Dark chocolate takes longer to melt, whereas milk chocolate melts more easily.

Put in 350 degree oven. Bake 8-10 min. cho.chips will harden back up in about 1/2hr. Or put in refrigerator for less time, but they taste sooo good when their still warm and melted.

They do melt whilst being cooked and then cool down after being taken out of the oven.
