Why not, what difference does it make where either of you are from. What matters is that you love each other. That you know in your heart he is a good man and can be a good father. Look in your heart the answer is there.

You don't say what religion you are, but the first question is: who will care? If your family is against it, you may have friction with them for some time; it depends on how "21st. Century" they are.
The second question is: who's going to know, if you don't tell them? Care about the person, not the label.
