My son will be 8 in a couple of weeks and we dont know what to do for his birthday. He wants about 5 of his friends but we have looked into the cinema and there is nothing on.
We live in the leicestershire area so if anyone knows of anything but not a party at home as he has had this times before.

Hi!

I'm not sure where Leicestershire is, but there are always a few ideas that will work for anyone, anywhere:

1) Try your nearest recreation center. They are often available to rent out facilities and an instructor for an afternoon...tennis, swimming, etc. are usually available through these sort of venues.

2) The tried and true "Chuck e Cheese" type place with a set up for games, food, etc. Not necessarily the most imaginative place, but kids seem totally into it.

3) What about at your local park? It's still great weather and a picnic is always fun. Bring sports equipment and get everyone involved in a game or two. (This might also get some parents to stay to help with the festivities.)

4) And if all else fails and you end up having the party at home: through a theme party. If you have a party store near you, consider browsing the aisles for ideas. Does your son enjoy playing cowboys -- try a western party. If he's into superman, why not a superhero bash?

Hope this helps!

You could take them to an Arcade or take them out for dinner (have a sleep over "camp out" (they just bring sleeping bags sleep in the house) One thing I have learned about "planned" birthday parties is the kids never stick to the plan. You can buy some cheap toys like water guns etc... you really don't have to do much to entertain 7, 8 & 9 year old boys... most of them just want to run, rough house or play video games! My parents never planned anything for my parties except food, drinks & cake... the entertaining was up to us those where better than the planned parties I went to !!!

Try renting one of the Moonbounce things.. They aren't that expensinve and the kids have a blast. Best part about it, you get to stay at home. We normally use a local company: http://www.bouncecheap.com

But they a have a national directory that may have something in your area: http://www.bouncecheap.com/national/directory.html

Just a thought!

Some suggestions:

*10 pin bowling (sometimes they have a party room you can book)
*A play centre
*Book a limo ride. Some companies provide soft drinks for the underaged.
*Go karting (should also have party room option)

Have you got Quasar near you ?
not only is it fun for the kids but it is also fun for the adults to run round like juveniles shooting each other with lazer guns and because it is for a childs birthday adults can get away with being like kids for an hour, I laughed me socks off.

Take them to a local pool, that's always fun, or you could go bowling or (i don't know if you have something like this where you live) you could go to a Craig's Crusers (it's kind of like a mineuture golf course, go-cart, arcade, lazer tag thing) or something like it, or take them roller blading
