Found Joseph's christening with the name of his parents. Found Oliva with her family further down in the 1870 census. Doesn't look like any other researchers for this family has found the marriage date. Are you sure they were married in Canada? Perhaps they were married in Maine?

JOSEPH VICTOR DIONNE
Male
Christening: 27 SEP 1853 Saint Pascal, Kamouraska, Quebec

Parents:
Father: CYBRIEN DIONNE Family
Mother: SARA DESJARDINS OR ROY

Joseph and his 2 oldest sons were day laborers. His 2 eldest daughters were ring spinners in a cotton mill. Both Joseph and Oliva immigrated in 1866 and were still had not filed for naturalization. All of his children are listed as having been born in Maine. All are still living and with their parents in 1900.

They state on the census that they have been married for 33 years (since about 1867), but in the 1870 census I find her living with her parents in Brunswick, Maine and cannot definitively find Joseph. He is not in Brunswick.

Hey Baiethecooncat,

You should be able to get either death certificate, and or Obit. Either of those should have the date of marriage and to whom. Use the Vital Records sites and you will have to pay for the Death certificate.

For the Obit - look for a library in the area on the internet. Then contact them. If you are nice to them, they will help find the Obits for her. Also try Cindi's list look for obits.

I tried the LDS site, no info on either of them. Joseph shows up on a Natralization Web site - You would have to write away for that record, and am not sure if it is the right person.

Another thought, you might try the GENFORUM for either of the family names. You might find someone else that is researching the same families.

In Canada, marriage registration is at the provincial level.

Marriage records for 1871 would be public information in ONTARIO, but I can't say for sure what the information laws in Quebec are (the province tends to vary quite a bit from other provinces with regards to their provincial legislation) or when their public registration first began.

Here is Cyndi's Quebec specific page... start reading!!! ;)

Check public records of the area that they lived because they would have had to get a marriage license
