I got a new cat and I'm not sure what to do with the loo seat. I don't know weather to not bother closing it or pay attention to it because my son thinks that the cat might drown if I leave it open, will my cat drown???

If you are worried, just go ahead and close it. Your son will blame you for the rest of his life if the cat drowns.

Kittens can easily fall in and drown, but an older cat is nothing to worry about. Unless you keep one of those cleaner things in the toilet....if you do, keep it closed because cats sometimes drink from the toilet. To be on the safe side, I would recommend never leaving any type of cleaning solution in the toilet because someone may forget and leave the lid up. But as far as drowning, there's no need to worry unless it's a small kitten.

Is this a kitten? A cat would not drown in a toilet. A kitten could get very wet and if you are not home, suffer from hypothermia if it had to wait for you to get it dry. Of course, drowning is a possibility and not too likely.

Personally I hate to see pets drink out of toilets so I always put the lids down on mine. Why don't you and your son get into this habit and then you won't have to worry.

I got two kittens a year ago and the female one fell down the toilet several times and couldn't get back out without help! Although she was always the right way up - so no real fear of drowning!

A year on, given the chance she will drink from the toilet even tho i always have a toilet block in the cistern and the water is blue!!

We keep the lid down because of this!

Um, no, the cat won't drown. You don't even need to think about it. Cats are very cautios and won't fall head first into a toilet. They tend to sniff things before they just dive into it. Kitty will see that there is water in there and will not want to put his whole body in it. The cat may drink out of the toilet, so make sure you don't use a tank sanitizer- this will make the cat sick if he's dumb enough to drink it, but most likely he won't be.

A young cat may certainly fall in and could potentially drown. However you could say the same for any small pet. But i have to say, even though i am a man (of sorts) i always put the toilet seat and lid down! Put that down to good trainning by my mum!!

It doesn't matter how you leave the loo seat, if your cat gets in when it's up, it will soon get out again.

Our kittens have been into a water butt, a mop bucket, a bath and the loo, all of which were full of water and they got out - soaked but out!

If you introduce a kitten to baths early enough and gentle enough (starting with an inch in the bottom of a bowl) they do not fear water as they grow up. One of my cats regularly shared a bath with me.

This is what I found:
Cats can't balance on a toilet seat. They will fall in and drown. FALSE
Cats are nature's original Gumby. Their muscular skeletal system is so flexible they can arch and twist their bodies in ways we can't imagine. Their coordination and balance would make Shaquille O'Neal seem as if he had lead weights in his sneakers. Balancing on a round piece of plastic is absurdly simple for an animal that can vault fences and scramble up trees. Cats are so well adapted for grasping that, if need be, a cat could cling to a brick wall. We are not teaching cats quantum mechanics, just teaching them to jump onto a round piece of plastic on top of a ceramic bowl to "go to the bathroom."

I think only kittens is what you would have to worry about.

I am sure it won't Otherwise millions of cats would drown every day as most men never remember to close the lid, so therefore there would be a severe shortage of cats in the world.
