I am going in Jan 2007 with my 8year old son. We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and I have booked a Character Breakfast for Donald's breakfastosaurus at Restaurantosaurus. But I was wondering how the dinner show are such as Hoop-Dee-Do Musical Revue, Mickey's backyard BBQ, or the Spirit of Aloha show. If anyone has ever done any of these events could you let me know how they are, and any suggestions Thanks

We went to the Character Breakfast in Animal Kingdom this past June and it was great. The food is awesome and the characters will let you take their picture with the kids and grownups alike. We also went to Hoop-Dee-Do and although it is a little expensive, I would go again. We laughed till we cried and the food was really good.

I have done the Character dining at Chef Mickey's and also the luau at the Polynesian (not character dining, but it was a dinner show).

The character dining is GREAT!! Even for adults!! You don't have to worry if you miss a character... the characters come to your table at least 5 different times (or more) while you are eating dinner. You WILL get to see each one of them, us close and personal. The characters walk around and spend as much time as you need, but even if you want more time, they'll be back! They sing songs and dance... loads of fun! When we went Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, Goofy and Donald were there.

It is a buffet, so you go up to the serving line to get your food. That may be different at other character dining, but it should tell you or you can ask the reservation assistant.

Now, the Luau at the Polynesian... that was also wonderful. The show was awesome!!! The food was excellent!! We can't wait to do it again. The earlier you book, the better the seat you have!

The polynesian puts on a show with fire throwers and hula dancers and singing... it is realy cool! They have the kids in the audience come up and dance with the dancers, its cute!

I have gone to the Spirit of Aloha show. It was entertaining. You get served your food family style and as you are eating there is a show about a girl that leaves her island home and has returned. The dancing is very interesting if that is your sort of thing. There is also one guy does dancing with fire torches. The stage itself is outdoors, but all the dining area is covered..

In short, I was glad that I did it, but won't be in a hurry to do it again. (not that it isn't good, it is just that there are SO MANY things to do at Disney World. lol)

My sister has done the Hoop-Dee-Do and she liked it. Lots of corny jokes..

I have read that Mickey's Backyard BBQ is fun if you are the type to get up and get involved with the show. The food is served buffet style, so it can be busy with people getting up & down to get food.

I have done a character breakfast at Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary Resort. That was great. Everyone takes there napkin and swings it around overhead, this made me nervous. I no sooner said, "gee, isn't that a bit dangerous?" when my niece's napkin hit her sister in the face! Oh well...

I have been to Donald's Beakfast & to Chef Mickey's. I think we had more fun at Chef Mickey's although it wasn't as easy to get to with Disney's Transportation. My favorite Dinner Show for kids is Hoop Dee Do. What could be better than a BBQ, jokes, and jsut a good time. The Luau is much better for adults. I would recommend a place called the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. The cast members there tell jokes, one guy at the table next to us was wearing a Universal Studios shirt, so they gave him a hard time. I asked for a straw and got about 30 thrown on my table. I also asked for a refil, so they waiter brought out a glass that could hold about 40 ounces of Coke with a giant straw. This is my favorite place to eat.

I've been to the Spirit Of Aloha Dinner Show... I went once in 1997, back when it was just the Polynesian Luau, but I went back a few weeks ago. I really liked it both times. And the food's pretty good. I always stay at the Polynesian Resort anyway, so it made sense for us to go. I went with my boyfriend.

Here's a lot of pictures I took at the show...

Honestly I would recommend skipping the dinner shows at the theme parks and go to Arabian Knights, Sleuths, or Medieval Times instead. Those are the three best dinner shows in Orlando and you can get discounts to these places.
If your considering the Disney dinner shows because you are staying on Disney property and don't have a car Mears transportation which offers buses, shuttles, limos, and cabs all over Orlando and who are always on Disney property can get you to these places at a reasonable rate.
I know this is not what you asked, but I thought I would offer a suggestion based on my experience.

I went to all 3. I would suggest either the hoop de do if you like southern food, and slap stck old fashioned comedy. Micket bbq your sone will love though. I did not like the polynesioan food at the aloha show.

Pirate dinner show is awesome, they swing right over your table. Galleon set up in the middle and tables set up in an octagon around the ship. Like I said a real blast for the adults and kids alike.
