The question is what is your opinion of #65. Does Martin Luther mean that the gospel words were originally used to lure rich people in and get them to give their money away to the church?

Sorry 'bout that. Yes, that seems to be what he's saying. And I'm not sure anyone can really deny it was true.... Well, you know, unless they have their official church issued blinders on...

Selnyk,
I think it's because no one knows where to find that one remark, and 95 of them is kind of time consuming.

66. The treasures of the indulgences are the nets to-day which they use to fish for men of wealth.

See? I did that for you. It's number 66. What a number! Did you do that on purpose, choose #66? Devil worshiper! lol

Indulgences were the Roman Catholic Churches way of extracting money from people out of fear of the false doctrine of Purgatory. Wealthy men had more money so , . . . . .you get it now?

Martin Luther was indeed saying the Catholic church was less about the souls of men and more about the wealth and power of the church.
Has anything changed?

Hey,
Sadly, yes, for this forum, I think it probably did go over people's heads. Martin Luther's work wasn't even understood in his day except by those whom the Lord had opened their eyes to it. Same story on Yahoo answers, I guess.

I'm not a Lutheran and even still yes it does go over my head. The treasures I keep my focus on reside in heaven, not earthly treasures. God bless and good question.

What, exactly are you asking in that question? Are you asking how we feel about the site's interpretation of the phrase? Are you asking if we agree that the gospels are trying to get people to donate? Please clarify, and you may get more answers.
