Use Redken Shades EQ color glossers, they have no ammonia, no bleach and are essentially a glossy luminous sheath that covers your hair. It is truly the best haircolor on the market. Instead of stripping and damaging your hair it actually conditions your hair and makes it slippery/silky like satin. It is, unfortunately, a salon only product...but not too expensive at 30-40 dollars every 12 weeks (3 months). I promise you, once you try it You will never go back. I am a natural blonde and I have been getting my hair done deep, deep, darkest espresso brown for 2 years now & I only use Shades EQ in a mix (sounds wierd but it is stunning...1/2 Espresso, 1/2 Moss, and a tiny splash of Blue Kicker to neutralize out any red tones) I get compliments daily on my shiny healthy hair. It's the best! Good luck & have fun as a Knockout brunette!

if your hair is lighter you usually don't have to dye it at all if it is darker or you want to go back to your natural you should not do it more than 2 shades lighter with 1 "jump" lets say your a light brunette then you dye it black and then you hate it you would have to buy several different dyes that are just 2 shades lighter each that or you would have to use peroxide that might damage your hair and then re dye but you can pretty much dye it as dark as you want

Just dye you hair Little darker to see if you like it and can get used to the change. or if your defo ready get darkest brown there is, and go for it. i did, i went from brown to bright blonde, but Ive got brown underneath,. good luck with that. depending on the Lent's of your hair, if its long get two hair dyes, if its short just one.
Also if you are doing it yourself, be sure to put petroleum jelly or a lotion on your forehead. dark dyes tend to stain the skin so take your time and be careful
