of course I pray over my food in a restaraunt!!! Do you have any idea what goes on in those kitchens? Me either. that's one reason I pray!!!
LOL :)
Oh, the most important reason I pray over my food is I acknowledge God as my provider and I was taught I should never accept anything without saying "thanks!"

I always say grace before every meal. Generally, I don't before I eat snacks though a nice chocolate bar has occasionally solicited a "thank you Jesus!" when I'm over-stressed. If we're together as a family, we usually hold hands and take turns saying grace. Since my kids are still little, we usually say the main prayer and then ask: does anyone have anything special they'd like to pray for today too? Usually they'll say: "Yes, help grandma feel better!" or "help me to do good at my soccer game today" or whatever we have going on that day. We do this at home or at restaurants. If I know that someone who's tagged along is uncomfortable praying we forgo the holding of hands and just say the grace quickly. I don't try to push it on others; but it's a must for our family. If I'm by myself, I usually just close my eyes for a second and offer up a quiet thanks.

It is common to all religions The Hindus, the Muslims and the Christians. It is a ritual harking back to our tribal past when food was hard to come by and a matter to be thankful to somebody. The underlying idea is not bad but it has assumed the dryness of a ritual.. It is uncertain hether the one offering prayers is doing it as a grateful acknowledgement or just a formality The way we find the food being wasted creates a reasonable suspicion that it is more a show-off of one's piety. If really actuated by a genuine feeling of obligation there is nothing objectionable to offer the prayer but let ou actions also confirm our feeling of being obliged. .

Yes I do pray before I eat.
It helps reminds me of all the wonderful things/blessings that God has given me-including food.
How r we supposed to be a shining light to this world if we don't stand up for our belief and do/act our beliefs? God told us to go out and preach to others. How can we if we aren't even comfortable enough to pray in public?
Let your kids pray in pubic-it helps them grow in their beliefs.
Being a teen myself-I think it is a privilege to pray out loud to our Creator, a privilege to be able to express our belief in this country. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't. I'd probably just keep on praying!

I pray before I eat any time I remember. Hiding your belief is the same as denying God.

This one I don't rarely do even when I'm not in public. I asked my mother yesterday, since we were eating chicken, if she was worried about eating it. Of course her reply was that she asks God to bless it. I was kind of stunned because we really didn't pray together before we started eating. I already understand that everything I have is because of Him and thank Him as much as possible for this, but usually forget to say grace before eating. So, for me it's not even about doing this in public, but remembering to do it all together. God bless.

I pray all the time in public, not making a scene or a public outcry , but just a quick blessing before we eat.

Just being curious, why should you hide your belief in God?
Blessing your food should be genuine, not just a habit--it seems that for your kids, it's become a habit. Make sure that they know why they're blessing their food instead of just making sure they do it so that they can eat.

Yes we always blessed our food before we ate. Not in church right now so that has slipped as well. Hard to pray when your the prodigal daughter and out of fellowship with God.

Praying is the dumbest concept ever. Praying for food you're praying for is even dumber.
