I'm a student in college and I dont have a job. I'm a dependant of my father but I dont want my father to know I'm going to Planned Parenthood. The lady on the phone told me the prices for the service will depend on what I tell them my father's income is. How much should I say my father makes so that I can get free services...but not make it ridiculously low and unbelievable? Also...the income is not verified because of confidentiality...therefore there is no way for them to say I'm lying.

First of all, just ignore all the immature banter of people who are giving you a hard time. You are most likely going to PP for an exam and birth control pills. Good for you! Tell them the truth, that you live in your father's house but have no job and can't tell him about your plans for birth control. It would be better if you could tell him the truth, but the fact is that some parents don't want to deal with this stuff. Planned Parenthood is a blessing for many young people -- they want to help. Their web site is www.plannedparenthood.com. You are being brave and smart for taking care of yourself on your own. Good luck.

it shouldn't matter what your fathers income is. I never heard of them needing to know that. But if that's what they request then you should be honest. Ballpark it on the lower side. They do take into account that your dad has other bills and such. So, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are so many college students that go through it. They are not allowed to discuss things with your dad so don't worry about that. If you do end up needing to pay something it won't be very much. Good luck!

First, P.P.H takes Insurance, don't believe them if they say they dont.
Two, PPH is supposed to be cost efficient, depending on what your going in for services are automatically free or under 100$.
Three, if your in college and dont live with your parents just say you are getting a scholarship etc, and have no support from parents. Regardless they can't use your parents income if your no longer a minor.

hey, all you ***, there are many reasons for going to planned parenthood, including well woman checks (pap smear) and birth control. people are always screaming on these boards about how women should use birth control and not get pregnant, now here's one doing that and you're calling her names. and fyi-the first consultation at a clinic is not generally free.
having said that, you shouldn't have to lie, just tell them you are a college student and can't afford to pay much and can't have your parents know. i'm sure they will work with you.

I am not sure why they are asking for your father's income. I thought they should go by your income, especially if you are a sudent in college. But if they insist on asking for your father's income, then tell them the truth about it. If you are unaware of his salary, find out somehow. Why don't you go ahead and tell your father? You never expect to get something good by being dishonest. If you get it wrong you won't keep it.

If you are going to planned parenthood for as you say "not an abortion" than I have a couple of questions for you?

a) How old are you? If you are a college student, then you know lying is WRONG
b) Why are you lying about them requiring your fathers income? They require your income whether you are dependant on your father or not! So If your father pays your tuition and scholl costs etc...you have NO income!!!
c) Why are you lying about the price of service...1st visit consultations are FREE
d) Why not visit your family doctor (or any doctor for that matter)?

Do you now understand why people are berating you here?

If you are an adult and have no job they should base the price on that, what you do at P.P has nothing to do with whether or not your father supports you. This should have nothing to do with him! If underage girls can go and get free services even if their daddies are rich I see no reason for you not to.

Tell them you don't know how much your father makes, but it's not much. Tell them for you to find out you would have to explain to him why you're asking, and he can't know. Tell them he won't help you and that he doesn't make much anyway.

You could always say that you don't have a job and that family helps you out with bills (I think someone else also suggested this). They should have no reason to ask what your father makes. I hate to say it, but you may have to lie. Unfortunately, they make it so difficult for people who need help to get it, that you almost have to lie to get the help. Good Luck
