Buddhist is an ascetic monk - Buddhism and Jainism are called Indic Religions - derived from the ancient Hinduism. One can say they are particular Sects or Orders of Orthodox Hinduism. It could be said they were 'Reactionery' to the then prevalent Hinduism opting for the ascetic path of self-realization.

Buddhism is an excellent path for leading people to the same experience (enlightenment) as the Buddha (the path reduces the self, ultimately leading to an experience where the self is seen as illusory). Although it’s often been misused to support the ‘self’/ego - by either its infusion with superstition or the western tendency to make it into a philosophy – one can find a great mind-training path if one sticks to what it’s intended for. Read ‘3 Pillars of Zen’ for more info.

That religion is the most pure in my belief. It is one of the only religions that have no God but just strive for personal enlightenment. Many believe they worship Buddha, which isn't true. The founder was a prince by the name of Siddhartha Gautama and he meditated until he found enlightenment ( which is what Buddha means). He layed a map on how to achieve this and people follow that today.

A way of viewing the Worlsd so that the balance and health of the whole planet is at the centre of the practice. So much superior to human centric systems like Chistianity, Islam and Judaism.
Buddhists are much less likely to reach for a gun or bomb than the other dysfunctional lot.

All religions have one thing in common, meditation and Prayer. The Buddist religion is one way of trying to explain something we will never be able to understand while constrained to this body. Only in the spiritual world will we come to a complete understanding of why we exist.

I've been semi-practicing Buddhism and attending a Tibetan monsatery for about a year now. It's not quite my path, but I respect them greatly and benefit incredibly from their teachings.
