murder would not exist without God, as it does not exist in the animal world.

The answer is yes there would be, since what we call morals, the ground work for them was laid out before religion propagated. Plus of believe systems that do not have a God have murder as a moral no no. So, for those of you that have been that if there was no God there would be no morals, get over yourselves. You are the new comers to this world of beliefs. You are the murders. Your Christian god is a warlord that it you book is true order the murder of 100's of thousands for his own gain. For you Christians to go around and say murder is the soul domain of your god is, well like calling the kettle black. You are the most murderous group of people on the planet bar none. At least when Gangues and Hitler came you knew you were going to die. You guys just showed up killed a few, called them heathens and that you were cleansing the place. Then you would see who else was not going to follow you and you did the same to them. Murder in the name of you god is why the world is the way it is.
So to answer your question: Murder is here because of god, he was the first to ask for it, the first to commit it and the top serial killer this world has ever and will ever know.

Good question.
It is possible that maybe we do get our morals from religino, or the idea of them at any rate. Is there any society out there that has existed without some sort of faith-based system though? I havne'nt hear of one, so this would be a hard theory to put to the test.
However, if we were to remove faith-based systems, that would take one of the complexities that makes us human away- and we would be closer to the wild animals of the Earth. Do they have systems like we do, where certain behaviour is wrong? Yes, and No.
Theirs is more gonverned by streangth and cunning- the two things that guarantee survival. If you are out powered and out manueverd, then you shouldn't be there, because you are weak. It is how the animal world works. I've never heard of any animal killing just to kill- And only few cases of cannibalism.
It may be possible that Murder would still remain against the law- their are laws over everything, and they are followed by the majority. I think even if we didn't have faith, maybe there would still be laws against it. People would still rise to power, and powerful people need a means to keep people in check, and to protect their station. If people were allowed to kill, then that wouldn't be possible.
So really, it depends on not only the removal of religion, but also the removal of the fight for power.

Of course it would be illegal. Morals and how a person behaves is common sense. Some people are just evil. While most of us try to do the right thing, most of the time
By the way, what does evolution have to do with anything?
Are you suggesting that any one who believes in evolution thinks that murder is acceptable. Cmon, get real.

Yes. We are social creatures with an evolved sense of social contract. This social contract stipulates the most fundamental rule of ethic -- and by fundamental, I mean that you will find it in every single culture since history began:
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (or, the negative version, as Buddhism phrases it, do not do to others what you would not wish done to you).
I don't want to be murdered, nor do most other people, so the society would make it illegal so that society can punish the murderer.

Judging from the answers you've received thus far, there are alot of Godless people who seem to be spending time on the Religion & Spirituality board, which doesn't make much sense, does it? If atheist's really, truly don't believe in the existence of God, then why do they spend so much time and effort to disprove Him? I don't believe in fairies, but I'm not on a life-long campaign to prove they don't exist.....what I don't really believe in are atheists. No matter how much they profess to not believe, the word says they know in their hearts there IS a God. They doth protest too much, I think......
As for your question about evolution, I think you know that is a bunch of crap. The nature of your question reveals it. If evolution were true, then you could plant a grain of wheat in the ground and it might morph into corn. Scientists couldn't even pinpoint the exact time OJ Simpson murdered his estranged wife...how can they look at a piece of rock and accurately tell me how many billions/trillions of years it has been in existence, or what happened to it along the way?
Even the birth of Christ confirms what a lie evolution is: He had to be born of a virgin, fathered by the Holy Spirit for one reason and one reason only: Man cannot produce God, any more than an ape could produce a man.
Also, murder is already considered legal world-wide: Abortion is government sanctioned in many states and countries, and that IS murder.
So God is, and murder is also considered legal by stupid, evil lawmakers. Some of your respondents are correct in that God didn't make THOSE laws....man did.

You are a bit teched as they say. Religion and I do mean all of them are creations of man to control man. Civil law is replacing religion but much too slowly. People have to have rules to be able to live together. Over crowding breaks down the rule system requiring even more restrictive rules. Eventually if over crowding is not solved there will be chaos.

Probably. Even with religion murder still seems to be acceptable or justified in some parts of the world. Even without religion - there is still "Ethics".

This is a brilliant question. Though I am certain that those who don't believe in a Creator will find it an unsettling one.
This is a question of moral absolutes. Evolution would suggest that murder didn't exist as it exists in society today. It would have to be reduced, simply, to that of "survival of the fittest."
Therefore, I choose the idea of a Creator who added to His Creation certain moral absolutes.

So long as the majority of people reject to being murdered, it will be a crime, irregardless of religions place.
Religions just like to claim it was them who first thought of making murder bad.

It depends. Most likely yes because we would still have organized intelligence. However if we stayed closer to nature im sure it would be ok because animals kill each other all the time. If it wasnt Illegal I could knock two people off my list quick.
