Any appetizer ideas for a cocktail wedding reception? It will be a Spring wedding.

Stick with foods that won't drip on clothing. Also, try to avoid anything that is greasy and oily. The less messy the better here. Have plenty of plates, napkins, and forks. Try a "theme" and stick with it. You should plan on plenty of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and breads. Limit meats, you don't want people to think that this is a meal and overload their plates.

Some "theme" ideas:
Tropical - Lots of fresh fruits and bright colors incorporated into the foods, ham and seafood.
Mediterranean - Seafood, cheeses, maybe an Antipasto tray.
English Tea - Finger sandwiches and tea cakes, great if you want your guests to have a more "meal" type experience.

Look at what is naturally in season to help you plan a menu. Spring vegetables and fruits fresh from the farm are always a good bet. Try to stay away from really exotic foods, you never know who might have an allergic reaction.

Try some menu planning sites that let you search by event, theme, season, or others. Like this one:

Good Luck!

What are some of your favorite appetizer's? I'd start there, I had a friend who demanded pigs in a blanket and pizza bagels at her reception. I would advise against messy appetizers, such as chicken wings, nachos, etc? Also, stick with appetizers that can be eaten with fingers, and don't require a fork/knife, that way people can have a munchie in one hand and a drink in the other, and still walk around. You can also do marinated meats (chicken/fish/steak) on skewers, those are easy as well. If you're going to be doing it yourself, head over to Costco or Sams, in their freezer section they have all sorts of appetizers that are really good. Best of luck to you.

I just finished watching the Top Chef marathon on Bravo this past weekend and they had a wedding on there with cool appetizers I had never seen before.... like crab on tortilla chips...something called prawn which looked like a crouton with alot of spices on it, (but the guests said it was good) go to Bravo.com and see if they still have the recepies up on the site...

How about a fruit bruchetta?

Use a brioche bread with some chopped apples, pineapples, sliced grapes, etc. and then sprinkle with slivered or chopped almonds.

On that a light sprinkling of sugar with ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, ... whatever. or a light frosting glaze with similar spices?

best,

cez

How about you talk to a caterer about it? They will probably have dozens of selections that you can choose from. Good luck in planning.

grilled bbq shrimp is good, even stuff like cheese and crackers(if your budget is smaller) scallops wrapped in bacon are something else too. pinwheels, loaded potato skins, whatever you choose try to make it something that is not extremely messy to eat. happy planning.

you might want to serve carpaccio, grilled mango shrimp, spinach and feta triangles on pita triangles, ham rolls with asparragus, and tomato crostini.
