If they are spiritual beings, what's the purpose of wings?
Isaiah 6:2,6
Could it be that the original concept of angels and gods was that they were people who lived in the sky, and that's why they needed wings, chariots of fire, ladders reaching to the heavens, etc?

Wow. Even though I provided a Biblical reference for this, people still say it's not in the Bible. Truly amazing.

Angels don't really have wings. This was an image created by man to symbolize them as being close to heaven. Angel wing are traditionally depicted resembling Eagle's wings because the eagle can soar very high, close to the sun, thus symbolically close the God's light. For the same reason demons are depicted as having bat wings because bats live in darkness and come out only at night when it is dark.
The chariots of fire and other things lake this are metaphorical descriptions of the authors of such passages to try to explain what they saw.

Maybe they're like rudders ona boat, not to fly but to direct the motion.
Isaiah 6 is more important because it contradicts the idea that God can't be seen. As early as Exodus 33:20 the Bible says looking at God will kill you, and the New Test. says that noone can see God at all. John 1:18 and 1 John 4:12 say "No man hath seen God at any time".

Depiction of angels having wings is a man-made concept that occurred in the early periods of Christianity and was heavily perpetuated in the extremely superstitious dark ages...there is nothing to it in the bible except a few metaphors.

Angels don't need wings, we just imagine angels having wings because that's the image that man has created to put with something that he has never seen.
Or, God gives angels wings so that we can understand how they move. Ex: we see an angel flying (easier to understand) than floating.

Would you imagine an angel without wings. It's your imagination that can make one fly. And if angel has to fly she must have wings. See I said SHE, again, I love to imagine a beautiful woman with wings flying over my haed with a divine smile on her face. I call her the angel.

So that when they are watching over somebody from heaven if that person needs help i.e. they are about to walk under a bus the angel will be able to fly down really quickly and save them.

According to what I have learned, it would appear that angel's wings are actually symbolic, not physical. Wings are a representation of power, to move, to act, etc. So when we see angels with wings, it is trying to convey that they are beings of authority or power.
