I believe that governments should not allow people (their owners) to walk their big dogs in the streets without this round thing that ties their jaws/mouth.
I mean those big dogs can really be dangerous and unpredicatable (no matter how trained!), many people i know have been victims of such dog attacks for no reason! I myself have had a somehow similar experience.

I would MUCH rather be bit by a large dog than by a toy dog (like a Chihuahua or mini pin). And the thing that ties around their jaw?? It's called a mussle. It does NOT tie their mouth shut. It prevents them from opening their jaw to bite, but it can still open!

ALL dogs can be dangerous and unpredictable, not just large dogs. When an owner walks a dog, large or small, it should be on a secure leash. If the dog, large or small, is a known risk to strangers, it should be walked late at night, early morning, empty streets, etc. There are measures the owner can take. Mussling a dog for no reason other than size is cruel.

It's NOT a government issue it is an OWNER issue.

Its an owners responsibility to be sure a dog that is being walked is under his control. Putting a muzzle device on a dog is extremely uncomfortable for them. Would you like to walk around and not be able to open your mouth? When they get hot and need to pant, they can't because they can't open their mouths. If the dog is uncontrollable, it should be taken to an area where it won't run into people.

And as a side-note, its not always the big dogs that cause trouble. I've seen tons of cases where its those little yippy dogs that run up to the big dogs and try to start trouble!!

I'd agree to this, as long as I could put my boot in every little dog running off leash or over 6 foot away from their owners on one of those extension leads! I have never had a problem with a large dog, but have been bitten by several "witty bitty precious poochies" and have had my dog (an English Mastiff) chewed on by a JRT!! Of course the JRT owner thought it was cute, but that stopped when they got the bill for my dogs stitches and antibotics!!

no, little dogs are often just as mean or vicious, often more so. While I agree that if a dog has previously bitten someone or shown signs of aggression, that dog should at least be monitored, I don't think that all large breeds should have to wear that.

That "thing" is called a muzzle and I believe that if a person knows their dog is aggressive...whether big or small dog, then yes they should muzzle it. Personally I don't walk up to anybody's dog without the owner's permission. I have a small Chihuahua mix who is aggressive to small children so therefore I never allow a child near her. However, I also have a German Shepherd who loves kids. She wouldn't hurt anyone. So therefore my answer is it all depends on the dog.

No. Little nervouse dogs bite all the time, big dogs, only rarely. It's the owners responsibility to know if their dog needs a muzzle and use it if necissary..

No. That would be totally unreasonable. Little dogs can be dangerous as well. Also for the record I have never seen a big dog snap at people while I have have seen many many many small dogs snap at people.

Why limit it to big dogs? Why not all dogs? Why not cats? I hate that my neighbors cats have ruined my herb garden and killed all of my plants. Why doesn't the governement force her to contain them as well. Why not just kill all the non-food producing animals in the world? Do they really serve a purpose?

Let's be realistic, this isn't going to happen, your questions is meant for the purpose of upsetting people and you are not seeking information nor looking for an honest answer.

NO I don't think that for a minute. See the dog in my picture? He weighs 100 lbs. He is also a therapy dog. We visit nursing homes, hospitals, schools, walk in parades, etc... He's 8 and has never shown aggression to anyone.

it depends on the dog really. if the dog is friendly, there is no need to restrain their mouth. also want to make sure that the owner has complete control of the dog.
