This does not sound like a just policy, and God is just. What you describe is a common Protestant and Evangelical belief, but it is not Catholic. Catholics believe that there are three things necessary to constitute a mortal sin--i.e. a sin which if left unrepented would lead to hell. These three things are gravity, full consent of the will, and full knowledge. Let's go through them one by one. For the sake of the argument, I will use a Buddhist, but it would apply to each individual (even Christians, of course). Is the gravity of not believing in Jesus Christ of great weight? Yes, that is serious. We are called to know and love God and Jesus Christ is God. Does a Buddhist have full consent of his/her will in denying Christ? Usually non-Christians do deny the divinity of Christ on their own--without being forced into that belief by others--so in general, yes they do have full consent of their will. Does a Buddhist have full knowledge of what they are doing? In almost all cases, the answer is no. Most Buddhists are not fully aware of Christ's teachings, the reasonability and logic of the Christian faith, and what Christians actually believe anyway. So, again in general, most Buddhists do NOT have full knowledge of this act (denying Christ). Since they do not have full knowledge, they are not fully culpable and God, being a loving AND JUST Father knows this, and will judge each one according the gifts.

Also, I'll take up the challenge from Haroon: The Koran maintains that Mohammed was the greatest prophet that has ever lived. But Jesus is described as the only prophet who was untouched by sin at birth--even Mohammed was apparantly "touched." If Mohammed was superior to Jesus, why wasn't he granted the same grace from God as Jesus was?

God Bless.

From Matthew:

When the disciples asked Jesus if there would be anyone after him....

Jesus answered them: "Watch out that no one misleads you, for many will come after me and use my name, saying "I am the Christ, and they will mislead many"

Many will be led into sin, and they will betray one another and hate one another. Any many false prophets will appear and deceive many, and because lawlessness will increase so much, the love of many will grow cold.

But the person who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

False Prophets: Mohammad, Joseph Smith, etc., etc. etc.

Time for earth is at least 5,000,000,000 more years. Do you think that is short? We all perish, and wanting has nothing to do with it. I don't bow to anyone, and if Jesus wants that, he is a tyrant. You are so full of hate for everyone who doesn't agree with your groundless beliefs that you are psychotic. Such beliefs can make one crazy. Are you a credit to your beliefs? I hardly think so. Mature Christians say such people as you give them a bad name. What glee you have to imagine everyone who disagrees with you in a "lake of fire". Dream on, for it'll never happen. If there was a real Hell, you'd be the first one there, for the Bible says, "As you judge others, so shall you be judged".

So, you've finished the judgment? You already decided who goes to hell and who doesn't! It sounds like you've finished the jufgement to me! How does it feel to be like God? Enjoy, cos I don't think it's going to last long! By the way, have you taken the plank out of your own eye? You know, gluttony is also a sin...

If all those people, myself included, don't sign up, will you not get into heaven? The reason I ask if your salvation is based on some sort of commission structure is that I cannot figure out why you would care what happens to anyone else, especially people like me who don't care what you think and are tired of hearing about it.

Preach on brother! We must let these heathens know the word of God. We will get our reward in heaven and if they choose to accept Christ into their hearts so shall they. But woe on those who do not, for I will not feel sorrow when they are cast into Hell to endure eternal pain and suffering!

I agree time is getting short. My project has a deadline coming up, and I can't be wasting my time with religious fantasy. Santa, tooth faerie, God, Easter bunny, ... nope, none of the above.

Well, maybe the FSM...
