I would encourage you to get your major in business and than to minor in cooking. It depends on how much money you want to make. You can do anything with a business degree including and not limited to running a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. However having a degree in culinary arts limits you to only that. The best thing to do however is follow your heart. I am just putting a logical spin on it. Good luck.

YES but do both , if cooking is your love and you learn to apply business thinking to your trade its a recipe for success .
A bag of potatoes cost say £3 which makes say 20 bags of chips sold at £1 each , minimal effort maximum profit .
Why don't you aim to become the first person to offer a reasonably sized microwave meal , the profit from that business could then be used to set up an exclusive restaurant of a type that can't rely on profit to gain popularity (it is this that kills most exclusive restaurant's before they are established)
Go for it and good luck .

I heard once someone say "if you wake up in the morning wanting to write you should be a writer". This can be used in whatever you want to do as a living or business. If you love doing your job, then you will do it better then the person who's going through the motions. So if that's your passion then go for it, food is big business. Look at all the chefs on the food network.

Do you want a social life? Then avoid cooking. Business studies will be a lot more appropriate in many fields. I would say do the cookery thing as a night class.

Youll have all the tools to open a restaurant. But realize, at some point you have to stop running off and actually do some work.
